Permalink US wants official of Ukrainian descent to run NATO

A granddaughter of a WWII Ukrainian Nazi collaborator, Chrystia Freeland is reportedly Washington’s “prime” pick for the job | The “prime candidate” favored by Washington to replace outgoing NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is Chrystia Freeland, currently Canada’s Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, the New York Times reported on Friday.  The bloc reportedly aims to install a woman at its helm for the first time, with other likely contenders being Estonian premier Kaja Kallas, Slovakian President Zuzana Caputova and Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, former president of Croatia, who was also Zagreb’s ambassador to Washington. The “strong contenders” list provided by the NYT corresponds with earlier media reports this year. [...] Freeland has been extremely ambiguous on her ancestry, not only refusing to condemn her maternal grandparents but somewhat endorsing them instead. In 2015 she wrote an essay called “My Ukraine,” stating that her Nazi collaborator grandparents 💬 “saw themselves as political exiles with a responsibility to keep alive the idea of an independent Ukraine.” “That dream persisted into the next generation, and in some cases the generation after that,” Freeland wrote in the essay.

Permalink The Twitter Massacre

Moon of Alabama | I am amusing myself with watching the panic some people express over Elon Musk's cleanup of Twitter. Yesterday 3,700 of its 7,500 workers were fired. That is not good, but the company was losing money and making money is at the core of the capitalist game. [...] Twitter had become a 'woke' company that was mostly in the hands of the Democratic Party. By being 'woke' and by supporting 'regime change' efforts Twitter killed its own access to at least half of its potential market. It Musk manages to make it a more neutral service, nationally and internationally, while keeping its original function alive, I am all for it. Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen.

Permalink NATO Had Plans for a Preemptive Strike on Russia Using the Cover of a French-Led Naval Exercise in the Mediterranean

Revelations further underscore mendacity behind Biden administration claim that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was unprovoked | POLARIS 21 was a large-scale French naval exercise in the Mediterranean that took place from November 18 to December 3, 2021, off the island of Corsica between France and Italy.  Officially, the aim of the training was to test the capabilities of the sea and air elements to face future wars, using the latest systems and naval vessels to develop tactics.  The scenario of the exercise—which saw the participation of 23 ships, one submarine, 65 aircraft and 6,000 personnel from six NATO nations including the U.S.—was to enable the Allies to maintain control of the Mediterranean in the event of a threat from the Russian air force and navy.  Journalists have come into possession of documents which detailed plans for the NATO coalition to use the POLARIS exercise to send a French carrier strike group to preemptively attack Russia in the case of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, which the U.S. and NATO were in the process of provoking. The UK signed an agreement with Ukraine that granted it access to naval bases in Ukraine that could be used to attack the Russian Federation.

Permalink A Map of US Bombing of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos

This is what the U.S. has in mind for Russia. At first, carpet bombing as a softening up. After that, shameless theft and plunder. It's called democracy. Only this time they've picked the wrong country. (Это то, что США имеют в виду в отношении России. Сначала ковровые бомбардировки в качестве смягчения. После этого бесстыдное воровство и грабеж. Это называется демократией. Только на этот раз они выбрали не ту страну.)

Permalink Outraged Activists Denounce Obama as “War Criminal”

Speaking at a campaign rally for Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on October 29 in the Renaissance High School Gym in Detroit, Michigan, former U.S. President Barack Obama was heckled by two activists, Anastasia and Stewart Battle. They indicted Obama for helping to spearhead the February 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine and for escalating tensions with Russia that have raised the prospect of nuclear war.  Obama stopped his speech to address the hecklers, stating: 💬 “Come on, this is what I mean, we are having a conversation. Right now, I’m talking, you’ll have a chance to talk sometime later.”  Obama continued: 💬 “We like each other, we don’t have to shout each other down—it’s not a good way to do business. You wouldn’t do that in the workplace. We wouldn’t just interrupt people having a conversation. It’s not how we do things.

Permalink Why are excess deaths higher now than during Covid?

More people are dying every week than during Covid’s peak years. | Last month there were 1,564 more deaths than average each week – known as excess deaths – compared with just 315 two years ago and 1,322 last year. In the week to 21 October (the most recent week of data) ONS figures reveal there were some 1,646 excess deaths alone. As has been reported before, excess deaths are most stark at home: with deaths in private homes nearly a third above average. Meanwhile in hospitals and care homes they’re just 15 and 10 per cent above average. The shift to dying at home, and the health service ceasing to function, continues.

Permalink In Video: Ukrainian Troops Preparing for Another Major Offensive in Kherson

For two days now, the city of Kherson has been subjected to massive shelling by all types of artillery systems, from barrel artillery of various calibers to multiple launch rocket systems of Soviet and Western production. The AFU units are deployed in the immediate vicinity of the city limits.  The city of Kherson is almost completely located on the right bank of the Dnieper River. That’s why earlier the Russian command declared the evacuation of residents of the city deep into Russian territory. The commander of the Russian Special Operation in Ukraine, Russian General Surovikin, also claimed that the city could be abandoned by Russian troops in case of military necessity and to save the lives of Russian soldiers.  Today, the AFU units are preparing to launch an assault on the city. Kiev is pulling up significant reserves in the region. Apparently, the large-scale offensive operation should be expected next week.

Permalink Over 50 countries vote against UN anti-Nazism resolution

The text condemning the glorification of Nazism was only previously opposed by the US and Ukraine | A UN resolution opposing the celebration of Nazism and related ideologies has met with significant resistance from the US and other western democracies, with 52 countries voting against it on Friday. The draft resolution...💬 "Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimi-nation, xenophobia and related intolerance," introduced by Russia’s representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, was adopted with 105 votes in support. In addition to the 52 votes against, 15 countries abstained.  The resolution expresses concern about glorifying Nazism, neo-Nazism and former Waffen SS members, and condemns the construction of monuments and the holding of public ceremonies honoring the Third Reich. Introducing the resolution, the Russian delegate referenced an increase in xenophobia, anti-migrant sentiment, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism, among other forms of discrimination.

Maria Zakharova -MFA/Мария Захарова | Just to make it clear how "democracy is made": A representative of the US delegation checks and notes the presence of "wards" from amongst the "collective West" allies before the meeting of the Third Committee on the draft resolution against the glorification of Nazism. The stick & carrot [stick mostly] system of free voting. With an important nuance: It is not party discipline. It is one country controlling how other countries vote at the UN. (www.DeepL.com/)

Permalink Münster School of Health on How Best to Bake Boil, and Dry Your FFP2 Masks to Ensure Their Hygienic and Responsible Re-Use

eugyppius | In the beginning of the Corona era, the German government required its citizens to wear cloth masks indoors. Everybody pretended these were wonderful, but they plainly did nothing, and so soon the government mandated surgical masks. When these also did nothing, FFP2 mandates were imposed, first in Bavaria and then more widely. The problem, back in those dark early months of 2021, was that cheap imported FFP2 masks were hard to come by. Germans would have to reuse these masks, contrary to the advice printed by the manufacturer on the packaging and all medical hygiene protocols. Happily, we had The Science on our side, because The Science readily supports whatever it is that politicians want to do...
