Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions have signed treaties on uniting these regions with Russia. The ceremony took place on Friday in the Grand Kremlin Palace's St. George's Hall. Before signing the documents, Putin delivered a speech about these territories joining Russia.

Kremlin says it will formalize integration into Russia of four Ukrainian regions that have voted overwhelmingly in favor of joining the Russian Federation.

Speaking on Thursday, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the process is slated to take place at Kremlin on Friday, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin is to deliver a "major" address to mark the occasion. Peskov identified the regions in question as Donetsk and Luhansk, which are located in eastern Ukraine, as well as Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in the south of the ex-Soviet republic. ● Later on Thursday, Putin signed decrees paving the way for Kherson and Zaporizhzhia to be formally incorporated into Russia territory. ● The referendums were held across the foursome regions over five days earlier this month.The plebiscites harked back to a similar vote that was held in 2014, during which Ukraine's Crimea peninsula voted to join Russia.Together the five regions make up some 20 percent of Ukraine's soil.Kiev and its Western allies, though, describe the votes as "sham."

💬 “But the sanctions are no longer enough for the Anglo-Saxons,” he said, using Russian shorthand for the US-UK transatlantic alliance. “They have turned to sabotage – it’s unbelievable, but it’s a fact – by organizing the explosions on the Nord Stream international gas pipelines,” the president stated.  ● “They de facto began the destruction of the common European energy infrastructure. It’s obvious to everyone who benefits from it. Those who benefit are the ones who have done it.”

Maria Zakharova also stressed that the region was crammed with NATO infrastructure | NATO member countries conducted drills in July using deep-sea equipment near the Nord Streams leaks site, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday. "In July, there were NATO drills with the use of deep-sea equipment in the area of the island of Bornholm," she said. Zakharova also stressed that the region was crammed with NATO infrastructure.

On Tuesday, the Nord Stream AG company reported that three threads of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 offshore gas pipelines had suffered unprecedented damage on Monday. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow was "deeply concerned about the news" and did not rule out that the pipelines’ operation could have been disrupted by an act of sabotage. Swedish seismologists later reported that two explosions had been recorded along the Nord Stream pipelines on Monday.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen slammed the incidents as sabotage, pointing out that any deliberate disruption of the European energy infrastructure is unacceptable and will lead to the strongest possible response". On Thursday, the Swedish Coast Guard discovered another gas leak from the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines.

A fourth leak has been found on the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, according to the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

The leak in question is located on Nord Stream 2 in the vicinity of those known before. "Two of these four leaks are located in the Swedish economic zone. There has been a larger gas release of approximately 900 meters in diameter and a smaller one of approximately 200 meters in diameter," Jenny Larsson of the Coast Guard's command center told the newspaper. Admittedly, the Coast Guard has been aware of the four leaks since Tuesday and cannot say why the information didn't get out until now. Most recently on Wednesday evening, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson spoke about "three gas leaks" on Nord Stream 1 and 2.

Moscow will request a meeting over suspected “sabotage” against the Nord Stream pipeline | Moscow wishes to call an emergency UN Security Council session over the “provocations” at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday in a Telegram post. Both pipelines were severely damaged earlier this week in what many suspect was a deliberate attack.

Russian, American, and Swedish officials all said that the damage might have been the result of a targeted attack on pipeline infrastructure. No suspects behind the incident have officially been named, although in a tweet former Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski “thanked” Washington for destroying the pipeline. Moscow, which called the incident a “terrorist attack," also named the US as a potential suspect.

Polish President Andrzej Duda demanded last month that the pipeline be “totally scrapped.” US President Joe Biden warned in early February, before Russia began its military operation in Ukraine, that if Moscow acts against Kiev, “there will no longer be a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it.” A journalist asked him to clarify what exactly he meant, to which Biden responded: “I promise you, we will be able to do that.”

The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR) along with Kherson Region and part of Zaporozhye Region in southern Ukraine have voted to join Russia in referendums that were held between September 23 and 27. ● In Lugansk, more than 98% of voters have supported the idea to join Russia, official figures show with all the ballots counted. Donetsk has shown similar results with more than 99% of voters supporting the move. Both Zaporozhye and Kherson regions have process all the ballots by late Tuesday, with 93% and 87% of voters respectively backing the split from Ukraine and reunification with Russia.

The process of integrating new regions into Russia may take some time as it requires the approval of the country’s parliament and the president. But Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that he was “convinced it will be fast enough.” ● Under the Russian constitution and the federal law on the accession of new constituent members, the procedure includes several steps. Once the regions willing to become part of the Russian Federation submit their proposals to Moscow, the president should inform parliament and the government on the matter, Senator Konstantin Kosachev explained in a Telegram post last week. If a political agreement on the accession is reached, “draft international treaties on the admission of foreign states or parts of them” to Russia should be developed, Kosachev, the vice speaker of the upper house of parliament, said. These agreements regulate issues such as the name and status of new territories, citizenship, succession, the functioning of public authorities, the operation of legislation, and so forth.

Ukraine is using NATO weapons to kill innocent civilians in the Donbass (Eva Bartlett -RT.com) | On Monday, Ukraine slaughtered 16 civilians, including two children, with 155mm NATO shells, according to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin. The projectiles hit two adjacent neighborhoods, decimating residential and commercial areas – including a market that had previously suffered fatal attacks. ● Scenes of death are nothing new for residents and reporters here in Donetsk, which is intermittently the target of Ukrainian attacks, like the one that hit its central region on August 4, killing six people, including an 11-year-old ballerina, her grandmother, and her ballet teacher. ● But the carnage on Monday was worse than anything I’ve seen in my months of reporting here. It was ringing, the cheery ringtone incongruous with his lifeless body and the scenes and stench of death around him. ● For most people, the concept of war is a distant one, and deaths are normalized by media reporting the numbers of victims and destroyed buildings – so most who hear of civilians being killed don’t really understand what a scene like this looks or smells like. ● For the locals, it is also normalized, in its own way, after over eight years of Ukrainian attacks – a tragically grotesque kind of normality, where the post-bombing routine starts soon after the last explosions die down.

Eva Bartlett | Voting has started in Donetsk. I just went to Kalinskiy district where voting started at 8:30 am. Pretty straight forward: people show their ID, write their home address, get a ballot and cast their yes or no, behind a shield for their privacy, put the ballot in a sealed container. ● Of course, western pundits have already decided this is this is sham referendum, but the people here don't care what the west says. The west has been arming Ukraine, which is is raining bombs down on Donetsk, killing 6 people yesterday, 16 people Monday, 4 people Saturday...and thousands over the past 8 years. Enough is enough, the people are voting and don't be surprised if the results are for the DPR to join Russia.
