Permalink In Depth: the Fight for Water by Morocco Farmers

Dades Valley, Morocco – At the foot of the High Atlas mountain chain in southeastern Morocco, each village is named after the river that used to run through it. But today dry palm trees surround empty riverbeds and bridges now cross only stones left underneath. 💬 “When I was a child I used to swim in this river. There was an incredible fish diversity. Today half a century later, my wadi [valley] is completely dry,” says Yousef, a farmer from Kalaat MGouna, east of the gateway city of Ouarzazate. Yousef, a retired immigrant worker who lived in France, returned to his home village to grow olives, almonds, and pomegranate trees. Little did he know that irrigating his crops would become an impossible task.  The Ouarzazate semi-desert region is drying out. As in the rest of North Africa, global warming is already showing its effects and badly affecting agriculture. In the context of drought, Moroccan farmers point the finger at the mismanagement of remaining water resources, which have been diverted from their natural course to be set aside for expanding industries. Three industries in southeastern Morocco consume the most water: mining companies, agricultural monocultures, and the world’s largest solar power plant, Noor, generating thermal energy through an evaporation process. Water from the valleys around Ouarzazate is collected in the al-Mansour Eddahbi dam which is below 12 percent of its current capacity.  Environmental groups in the region have criticised its centralised and extractive resource management of the resource. 💬 “Local communities suffer from the effects of the climate crisis and do not even benefit from these large projects,” says Jamal Saddoq, a representative of Attac Morocco, one of the few associations working on the consequences of the extractive industry in the southeast. Along the roads through the desert, it is not uncommon to notice a white smoke cloud – a sign of mining activity. Excluding phosphates, about 40 percent of the mining licenses in Morocco are located in the Drâa-Tafilalet region.  According to a recent interview with the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, companies in Morocco produce three million tonnes of minerals per year. Managem group, a Moroccan company operating in the extraction of precious metals and cobalt, owns the main sites in the region. This is the case of the Imider mine, the largest in Africa, from where precious minerals such as silver leaves for Gulf and European countries.  Demonstrators have been calling for an equitable distribution of resources, including water. “We got some achievements but not up to what we expected. About 50 young people have been hired and some development projects have been set up,” the activist said. 💬 “We have been protesting since the 1980s, but little has changed except that groundwater is running out. The company is still pumping water, digging wells deeper and deeper,” says one anti-mine activist, speaking on condition of anonymity to avoid repercussions from the authorities. “That’s why in 2011 we decided to block the pipeline connecting the mine to its water tank.” As the company’s own website explains, the mining industry needs water to recover precious metals from ore.

Permalink COP27: Countries band together to keep forest promise

More than 25 countries at the COP27 climate talks on Monday launched a group they said would ensure they hold one another accountable for a pledge to end deforestation by 2030, and announced billions of dollars to finance their efforts. | The first meeting of the Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnershipis being chaired by Ghana and the United States. It takes place a year after more than 140 leaders promised at COP26 in Britain to end deforestation by the end of the decade.  Progress since has been patchy, with only a few countries instituting more aggressive policies on deforestation and financing. The new group – which includes Japan, Pakistan, the Republic of Congo, and Britain – accounts for roughly 35 per cent of the world’s forests and aims to meet twice a year to track progress. Notable omissions from the group are Brazil, with its Amazon rainforest, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, whose vast forests are home to endangered wildlife including gorillas.  Private cash piles up: Private companies announced US$3.6 billion in extra money. They include investment firm SouthBridge Group, creating a US$2 billion fund for restoration efforts in Africa, the region with the most tropical rainforest after South America. Volkswagen Group and H&M Group signed up to a separate initiative, The Leaf Coalition, launched at COP26, in which governments and companies pay countries with tropical and subtropical forests for emissions reductions.

Permalink Ukraine eclipses the sun: Europe's reparations will be done differently

Elena Panina (Елена Панина) | "COP27 Talks Begin With Deal to Discuss Climate Reparations," reads a headline over at Bloomberg. That's a mouthful, but what's the substance? It turns out that at the 27th climate summit which opened in Egypt, rich countries agreed for the first time not to block a discussion (!) about compensation (!) to undeveloped countries for global warming damage.  But before that there was a 48-hour haggle on the sidelines which ended with a "compromise": to focus not on the compensation itself, but on "cooperation and assistance". The decision is to be taken "no later than 2024". In other words, there will be no money.  Just as no one has yet seen the promised $100 billion annually from developed countries "to save the climate. This is mere pennies compared, for example, to the $693bn the G20 countries spent on supporting the fossil fuel industry in the "herbivorous" year of 2021.  Now, in a year of "record heat waves, droughts and floods," compounded by an energy crisis and the reopening of coal mines in Europe, old calculations about the energy transition are going in the bin. That is where they belong. After all, the grand scam of plundering money from the Old World "to repair the weather" is no longer very necessary. It has been overshadowed by the "Ukrainian crisis", which has brought and will continue to bring the beneficiaries far greater dividends. (www.DeepL.com/)(AP Photo/Thomas Hartwell)

II open-cast lignite coal mine. (A. Rentz/Getty Images)

White-fronted Magpie | Germany's national energy supplier has decided to dismantle a total of eight wind turbines in order to expand its lignite mining area. | These measures are reportedly taken to ensure the safety of these turbines, as mining operations in the Garzweiler near Erkelenz are planned until 2030. The federal and regional authorities have thus agreed together with the energy company RWE that the phase-out of coal mining in the mining region will be postponed until 2030.  For years, climate activists have been fighting to prevent the destruction of homes in the area that could result from the expansion of mining. So amid the news, they are outraged and the Greens have criticised the plan, calling it "absurd to demolish wind turbines in the midst of a climate and energy crisis in order to redevelop a coal mine".  The dismantling of wind turbines to expand the mine speaks volumes about the complete failure of European attempts to switch to green generation. In recent years the West has spent billions on this trendy environmental idea, and today for the sake of mining "dirty" lignite it is abandoning its plans along with abandoning the wind towers. And all in the name of saving an energy industry that is in a rude crisis.  European states have failed to make their energy sectors independent of external sources, and have not learned to look into the future and foresee the consequences of their decisions not just for a year, but for more than a month. So today they are forced to scramble to find the means to deal with the energy crisis, forgetting the populist ideals of the past. (www.DeepL.com/)

Permalink Majority of US Waterways Contaminated by Cancer-Linked ‘Forever Chemicals,’ Analysis Reveals

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs) have been used in many consumer and industrial products since the 1940s. Often used to make products water-resistant, they break down very slowly over time and tend to build up in both the human body and the environment. PFAs have been linked to cancer and disease in humans.

Waterkeeper Alliance, a worldwide network of environmental organizations focusing on clean water, recently determined that the majority of US waterways were polluted with cancer-linked “forever chemicals.”  The agency conducted its analysis of US waterways in May and July of this year, taking 228 samples from 114 different rivers and streams across 34 states and the District of Columbia. Researchers found that 83% of the samples were found to have PFAs at levels that exceed federal limits, with 70% of those water sources detecting the most dangerous kinds of chemicals: PFOS and PFOA.

Good news, everybody! A new report from the eggheads at Oxford University assures us that switching to renewables will actually save us trillions of dollars!

You heard that right. It won't cost us trillions of dollars to build out a completely new global energy grid infrastructure based on technology that is still under development and then to switch the entire global economy onto it. No, don't be silly! It's going to save us trillions of dollars. TRILLIONS, I tell you! [...] In truth, the green energy sustainable enslavement grid is a scam from top to bottom. But it is not simply a pie-in-the-sky pipe dream being sold to a gullible and ignorant public. It's worse than that. It is a carefully crafted lie that is designed to lead us into our new role as serfs on the neofeudal plantation in the coming green dystopia.

Permalink About 200 pilot whales perish on Australian beach

HOBART, AUSTRALIA - About 200 pilot whales have perished after stranding themselves on an exposed, surf-swept beach on the rugged west coast of Tasmania, Australian rescuers said Thursday.

Just 35 of the approximately 230 beached whales are still alive, according to state wildlife services, who described a tough battle ahead to rescue survivors.  Aerial images from the scene revealed dozens of glossy, black mammals strewn along Ocean Beach, stuck on the waterline where the frigid southern ocean meets the sand.  Locals covered some of the creatures with blankets and doused them with buckets of sea water to keep them alive until more help arrived. [...] Helpers usually wade into the water and use harnesses to float the mammals into deeper waters, but officials said a new technique will also be tested, using an aquaculture firm's mechanical aid. From there a vessel will take them to deeper clearer waters to avoid a new stranding.  Two years ago nearby Macquarie Harbour was the scene of the country's largest-ever mass stranding, involving almost 500 pilot whales. More than 300 pilot whales died during that stranding, despite the efforts of dozens of volunteers who toiled for days in Tasmania's freezing waters to free them.

Permalink Bill Gates’ Colombian Mosquito Factory Breeding 30 Million Bacteria-Infected Mosquitos Per Week

Bill Gates’ Colombian ‘mosquito factory’ is breeding 30 million bacteria-infected mosquitos per week. The project’s objective appears to be to introduce Wolbachia into native mosquito populations by employing lab-bred mosquitoes, resulting in the infection of such populations.

In a plant in Colombia, Bill Gates is currently producing 30 million bacterially-infected mosquitoes every week and he has threatened to “scale and deliver” the mosquitoes to “communities around the world.”  As part of his World Mosquito Program (WMP), the Microsoft founder and self-declared World Health Czar has already invested $185 million in the establishment of the mosquito factory.  What is the project’s stated purpose? In order to eradicate native mosquito populations thought to be responsible for dengue, zika, and other viral illnesses in humans, it is necessary to utilize mosquitoes that are infected with a bacteria that induces sterility.

Permalink America’s Marxist-Left has disturbing Nazi socialism parallels: Cultural tyranny and media-induced mass formation psychosis

S.D. Wells | The mass authoritarianism “delusion” of the Left is well underway in America, and nearly every person who voted for nearly any Democrat cannot see it. They are under the spell. From the fixed election to the scamdemic, the Democrats are brainwashed under a liberal umbrella that just keeps sinking them deeper into what is termed mass formation psychosis. It really ramped up in America under Obama’s watch, but it all dates back to a powerful and evil little dude named Adolf Hitler.  Remember, the majority of German citizens were also brainwashed by Hitler’s propaganda, and after WWII, the rest of the world wondered how all these German citizens, many of whom were highly educated, got so brainwashed and apathetic toward the Holocaust during the Nazi reign of terror. How did it happen?  Simple answer: They were under the spell of mass formation psychosis. They agreed that killing off certain races/creeds/quality of humans would cleanse the world and heal the ailing German economy. The main targets were Jews, Blacks, gays, autistic children, the elderly and anyone with a handicap.  Similarly, the liberal youth of today, coupled with the adults who watch CNN and read the newspaper, are the epitome of the fully-brainwashed extremists who would gladly watch Republicans and Conservatives who voted for Trump be slow-walked into the gas chambers or shot in the head twice for being “fascists,” or “white supremacists,” or whatever other scapegoat name they slap on us all.  It’s a cultural tyranny and there’s no way to talk these folks out of their psychosis, because the media has told them the same lies for so long, they all believe them wholeheartedly.

The American Prairie (AP), a conservation project in Montana, has quietly scooped up more than 450,000 acres of land with the help of its billionaire donors and the federal government. The little-known project aims to create the largest "fully functioning ecosystem" in the continental U.S. by stitching together about 3.2 million acres of private and public lands, according to the American Prairie Foundation, which founded the reserve more than 20 years ago. The group has recorded 34 transactions spanning roughly 453,188 acres of land throughout central Montana — much of which were once used for farming and grazing — since 2004 and continues to aggressively expand.

💬 "Our mission is to assemble the largest complex of public and private lands devoted to wildlife in the lower 48," Pete Geddes, AP's vice president and chief external relations officer, told Fox News Digital in an interview. "For comparison, about 25% larger than Yellowstone." "We're not asking the federal government to create anything, we're not asking the federal government for any money," he added. "Instead, we're engaged in private philanthropy and voluntary exchange by buying ranches from people who would like to sell that to us."

Permalink Expert reluctantly admits Svalbard polar bears are thriving

In an article published last week, polar bear specialist Jon Aars is quoted as saying that Svalbard bears are “unexpectedly” thriving. However, he fails short of admitting that the bears don’t really need summer ice as long as they are well-fed in spring, which they have been for the last two decades—this year included.

💬 Aars said the sea ice in this area is declining more than twice as fast as anywhere else in the Arctic. But the polar bears here — unexpectedly — are thriving. [E. Haavik, Svalbard’s polar bears persist as sea ice melts — but not forever, 21 July 2022; my bold]

The suggestion by Aars that the Svalbard archipelago could one day be ice-free for the entire year is speculative hyperbole but even if that were to happen, it would only mean the permanent movement of 300 or so Svalbard bears to Franz Josef Land (still within the Barents Sea) where ice conditions are less volatile. This year is typical of most recent years in summer: Svalbard is devoid of ice but there is still plenty around Franz Josef Land to the east and to the north, where the Arctic pack ice begins (see ice chart below for 20 July 2022).

Permalink UN, WEF Behind Global War On Farmers

The U.N., the WEF, and other organizations are advancing the use of weeds and bugs as food. This, combined with a multitude of other signs, indicate that the UN and WEF are behind a global war on the farmers.

The United Nations’ “Agenda 2030” Sustainable Development Goals and the U.N.’s partners at the World Economic Forum (WEF) are directly related to the rising regulatory assault on agricultural producers from Holland and the United States to Sri Lanka and beyond. In fact, a number of the U.N.’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are directly tied to the implementation of laws that put pressure on global agriculture, ranching, and food sources.

High-ranking Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials within the U.N. system assisted in the development of the SDGs and are currently assisting in directing the organization’s execution of the global strategy. The U.N.-backed sustainability regulations on agriculture and food production, according to a number of experts, would cause economic ruin, shortages of essential items, widespread starvation, and a significant loss of personal freedoms if not stopped.

Minister for Nature and Nitrogen Policy, more precisely. That’s an official position in The Netherlands. And that position is occupied right now by Christianne van der Wal-Zeggelink, of the super-rich van der Wal family. They are known for owning a massive supermarket chain called Boni, but few people know they are also massively invested in Picnic, huge groceries retailer in The Netherlands, about to expand in Germany too, as attested by the mainstream media RTL.

Even less people know is that…Picnic directly buys from an existing supermarket chain (Boni), which saves them the operational costs on that side. Not having shops saves them big time on distribution and rent, which they can use to benefit consumers: So whether you buy from Boni or Picnic, you buy from the Dutch Nitrogen Minister.

BREAKING: Shots fired at peaceful Dutch farmer (The Counter Signal)

The Dutch Farmer Rebellion | Vox Popoli | EU and WEF promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aka Agenda 2030. Part of the SDGs is the reduction of agricultural impact on climate change by means of nitrogendioxide (NO2) restrictions. Dutch gouvernment signs contracts promising to execute this agenda and proceeds implementing new laws restricting NO2 emissions from farms. Dutch farms however barely produce any such gases, even the Dutch government statistics indicate 90% of the measured NO2 comes from Germany. NO2 is also a frail and unstable molecule that doesn’t actually impact the local environment. Independent digital soldiers discover the TriState City project in their efforts to find out why the Dutch gouvernment does this. TriState City is scheduled to be the complete bulldozing and rebuilding of the entire Benelux as one giant smart city, akin to the 90s movie Judge Dredd. TriState City is supposed to become the capital of the globo-homogenised One World Government (OWG). This OWG needs all that Dutch farmland to build ghettos. The NO2 law is just a tool being used to completely decimate the Netherlands, Dutch culture and the Dutch way of life. Farmers share this information and quietly decline this law. Dutch government publicly threatens land appropriation by force if the farmers don’t comply. Farmers organise tractor rallies and block highways. Farmers surround the home of the minister of agriculture. Farmers collaborate with other branches of the economy to organise a general strike and shutdown for Monday the 4th of July. Dutch government debates on the potential strike and say on public record that military violence may be used on the farmers if they attempt to shut down Schiphol. ln so doing the Dutch government quietly declared itself enemy of the People and became strictly illegal under admiralty law for it violated its corporate contract with the citizens of this nation. Hundreds of homes have been inundated in and around Australia’s largest city in a flood emergency that was impacting 50,000 people, officials said Tuesday.

Emergency response teams made 100 rescues overnight of people trapped in cars on flooded roads or in inundated homes in the Sydney area, State Emergency Service manager Ashley Sullivan said. Days of torrential rain have caused dams to overflow and waterways to break their banks, bringing a fourth flood emergency in 16 months to parts of the city of 5 million people. Evacuation orders and warnings to prepare to abandon homes impacted 50,000 people, up from 32,000 on Monday, New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet said. The New South Wales state government declared a disaster across 23 local government areas overnight, activating federal government financial assistance for flood victims. Emergency Services Minister Steph Cooke credited the skill and commitment of rescue crews for preventing any death or serious injury by the fourth day of the flooding emergency.
