A statement by Israeli Minister for Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage Amihai Eliyahu about the possibility of using a nuclear bomb in the Gaza Strip has raised many questions, including about the nuclear arsenal of the Jewish state, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday. | "This raised a huge number of questions. Question number one — it turns out that we are hearing official statements about the presence of nuclear weapons? The minister also opposed allowing any humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, saying that Israel "would not hand the Nazis humanitarian aid," and that "there is no such thing as uninvolved civilians in Gaza."  Later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suspended Eliyahu from participating in government meetings until further notice.

Permalink A new law is about to kill free speech and democracy in Australia

A bill on fighting “misinformation and disinformation” and “harm” aims to empower a government agency to police online expression | The Australian Government has recently introduced in Parliament a new law proposal to ban officially unapproved online content. Digital companies are expected to adopt a code of conduct which will see them censor speech based on broad, vague and far-reaching directives.  The Communications Legislation Amendment (Combating Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2023 foreshadows the imposition of a legal obligation on digital platforms to police alleged ‘misinformation’ and ‘disinformation’. If that does not work, the law proposal provides for the full empowerment of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to directly intervene for the purpose of preventing ‘harm’.

The ratification of the accord was put on hold in late 2013 by then-President Viktor Yanukovich, which sparked the Maidan coup that led to his overthrow.  The new Ukrainian government signed the agreement in 2014. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Putin said: 💬 “If you read what the EU proposed to Ukraine, this is what is apparently being realized now – this was tantamount to the destruction of all key industries that the Soviet Ukraine once prided itself on.” The president added that “we now see exactly that there’s nothing left there already.” According to Putin, Yanukovich was weighing Kiev’s options and simply postponed the ratification of the agreement with the EU in 2013.
