Permalink Turkish premier demands immediate end to protests

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for an immediate end to the anti-government protests that have swept the country for the past several days. - Erdogan made the remark on Friday in an address to his supporters at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport upon returning from a four-day trip to North Africa.

“I call for an immediate end to the demonstrations, which have lost their democratic credentials and turned into vandalism,” Erdogan said to thousands of cheering supporters who descended on the airport to welcome him home. He thanked his supporters for their restraint in recent days. “You have remained calm, mature and showed common sense,” the premier said, adding that “we’re all going to go home from here… You’re not the type of people to bang pots and pans on the streets.”

Permalink Shameless Australian Government: Assange not our concern

The Australian government has severed all ties with Julian Assange, stating that the Wikileaks co-founder is not their concern, while the US military prosecutors denounced him as a conspirator across the duration of Manning’s court martial. Assange’s situation “doesn't affect Australian interests,” Australia’s Foreign Minister Robert Carr told a US Senate budget estimates committee, adding that the country would no longer be making any representations to the US regarding him. Carr stated that the country wouldn’t be raising the question of Assange’s free speech protection with the US, also saying that no inquiries would be made into whether a US grand jury was still placing him under intense scrutiny.

New World Order Secrecy: Who will be Attending the Bilderberg Meeting? What Will be Discussed Behind Closed Doors?

Each year, the Bilderberg venue brings together leading members of the financial and corporate elite, politicians, handpicked scholars, journalists and scientists. It is An Anglo-Western European-North American Venue with participants from 21 Western countries (i.e Western Europe, US and Canada). With the exception of British born Polish Minister of Finance, Jacek Rostowski, there are no participants from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East (with the exception of Turkey). There are 14 women out of 140 participants. The official website of the Bilderberg describes the venue as “a forum for informal, off-the-record discussions about megatrends and the major issues facing the world.” Semi-secrecy prevails: While crucial negotiations are undertaken leading to far-reaching decisions, Prime Ministers and Finance Ministers in attendance are participating in their personal capacity; they are required not to report to Cabinet or to the Legislature. This year’s 61st meeting is scheduled to be held at the Grove Hotel near Watford, Hertfordshire, U.K., June 6-9, 2013.

Stephen Lendman: Bilderberg Conference Convenes - Their ideal world isn't fit to live in. They may end up destroying it in the process. They want one world government. They want unchallenged global dominance. It's hard imagining a more malevolent force.

Permalink Putin announces permanent navy presence in Mediterranean to protect Russia's security

Russia announced on Thursday that it will keep a fleet of about dozen navy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, a move President Vladimir Putin said is needed to protect his country's national security. Putin said the plan should not be seen as saber rattling, but it comes as Moscow is serving as a key ally and arms supplier to Syrian President Bashar Assad during that nation's civil war. The only naval base that Russia has in the Mediterranean and anywhere outside the former Soviet Union is located in Syria.

Permalink One Palestinian child has been killed by Israel every 3 days for the past 13 years

Official statistics from the Ministry of Information in Ramallah have revealed that 1,518 Palestinian children were killed by Israel's occupation forces from the outbreak of the second Intifada in September 2000 up to April 2013. That's the equivalent of one Palestinian child killed by Israel every 3 days for almost 13 years. The ministry added that the number of children injured by the Israelis since the start of the Second Intifada against Israel's occupation has now reached 6,000. "The International Day for the Protection of Children is on June 1," said a spokesman, "but Palestinian children are still subject to attacks by the Israelis and Jewish settlers on an almost daily basis." Noting that 2012 saw an unprecedented rise in the number of children arrested by Israeli forces, the report pointed out that 9,000 Palestinians under 18 years old have been arrested since the end of September 2000. Almost half of the Palestinian population is under 18. Almost two hundred and fifty Palestinian minors are being held in prison by Israel; 47 of them are children under 16 years of age.

Permalink Israeli serial sex abuser adopts 4-year-old Indian girl: report

An Israeli man convicted of sex offences against young children has gained custody of a four-year-old Indian girl through an agreement with a surrogate mother in India, according to a media report. - The man legally adopted the child through an agreement with the surrogate Indian mother and under current legislation the Israeli authorities do not have the power to remove the girl away from him, the Jewish Chronicle reported. According to an independent probe conducted by the Israel National Council for the Child (NCC), an NGO for children's rights, the man served a year and a half in jail for sexually abusing young children while they were under his supervision, some repeatedly, and is recognised as a paedophile by the authorities, the report said.

Permalink Dept. of Homeland Security: Laptops, Phones Can Be Searched Based on Hunches

U.S. border agents should continue to be allowed to search a traveler’s laptop, cellphone or other electronic device and keep copies of any data on them based on no more than a hunch, according to an internal Homeland Security Department "study". It contends limiting such searches would prevent the U.S. from detecting child pornographers or terrorists and expose the government to lawsuits. The 23-page report, obtained by The Associated Press and the American Civil Liberties Union under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, provides a rare glimpse of the Obama administration’s thinking on the long-standing but controversial practice of border agents and immigration officers searching and in some cases holding for weeks or months the digital devices of anyone trying to enter the U.S. Since his election, President Barack Obama has taken an expansive view of legal authorities in the name of national security, asserting that he can order the deaths of U.S. citizens abroad who are suspected of terrorism without involvement by courts, investigate reporters as criminals and — in this case — read and copy the contents of computers carried by U.S. travelers without a good reason to suspect wrongdoing.

Permalink Two Secretive Israeli Companies May Have Bugged The US Telecommunications Grid For The NSA

Two companies that bugged the U.S. telecommunications network for the National Security Agency (NSA) have extensive links to Israel's intelligence service, James Bamford of Wired reports. - NSA's chief General Keith Alexander was called before Congress last week to testify about the $2 billion Utah spy center the NSA is currently building, and he said the NSA does not have the ability to spy on the confidential personal communications of Americans. It seems that he wasn't lying since the NSA hired secretive contractors with extensive ties to Israel to provide hardware and software for 10 to 20 wiretapping rooms in key telecommunication points throughout the country, according to Wired.
