Permalink Are you Bradley Manning? High-profile Americans take to YouTube to back Nobel petition

The protesters who descended on Fort Meade military base in Maryland to express frustration with the trial of Bradley Manning have been joined by major American celebrities and journalists, who are also rallying support for the Army whistleblower. Manning, 25, could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted of aiding and abetting the enemy by leaking military cables to WikiLeaks. US military prosecutors have asserted that Manning put his own agenda above national security and that by releasing the cables, most notably the Collateral Murder video depicting an American helicopter opening fire on Iraqi civilians, he jeopardized Americans in the field of battle. But his trial at Fort Meade this week has attracted the attention of influential Americans, as well as international activists who opposed the American wars in the Middle East and beyond. The “I Am Bradley Manning” campaign, featuring a video trailer of A-list celebrities and public thinkers voicing support for Manning, pushed viewers to consider if they themselves would have the courage to disclose military video footage in order to stop the carnage. Actors Russell Brand, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Wallace Shawn join Oliver Stone, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, and journalists Chris Hedges, Matt Taibbi and a slew of others who lend Manning their support. Daniel Ellsberg, the former US Defense Department employee who leaked the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War, is also featured.

The gory battle for Qusayr may be over, but a new wave of sectarian warfare may be on the horizon. - The Syrian government announced Wednesday it has taken control of the strategic border city, where regime forces and Hezbollah fighters have been battling rebels for weeks. State-run TV said regime forces staged an operation "that led to the annihilation of a number of terrorists" -- a term often used to describe rebels. The information on the facility at Tel Shahar is classified in Israel, with the local military even refusing to officially confirm its location between the cities of Jerusalem and Ashdod.

Permalink 'Broken-souled idealist': Hacker confidante who exposed Manning testifies

The Colombian-American computer hacker who turned Army Private Bradley Manning in to authorities surprised courtroom spectators Tuesday when he took the stand during day two of the soldier’s trial.

Prosecutors called Adrian Lamo to testify Tuesday morning, an unexpected maneuver that brought gasps from within the courtroom and the nearby media center where only a handful of journalist gathered to report on the second day of the long-awaited court-martial of Private first class Manning. Not a single one of the 70 seats within the Ft. Meade press center was vacant when the trial kicked off on Monday, but barely two-dozen journalists assembled a day later when a key witness in the case was called to answer questions about the Army intelligence analyst.

Permalink US missile defense system may remain on Jordan-Syria border after drills

The US will deploy Patriot missile batteries and F-16 fighter jets in Jordan for military exercises, and the weapons may remain there indefinitely due to the threat of the Syrian civil war. The US has declined to comment on the size of the deployment. - The missile defense systems were "approved for deployment to Jordan as part of Exercise Eager Lion," AFP quoted US Central Command spokesperson Lt. Col. T.G. Taylor as saying. "In order to enhance the defensive posture and capacity of Jordan, some of these assets may remain beyond the exercise at the request of the government of Jordan," he added. Russia has condemned the US decision, arguing that the deployment will only “pump more weapons into an already explosive region,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aleksandr Lukashevich said. Lukashevich noted that that missile defense system will be placed close to Syria, which is still embroiled in a conflict that “Russia and the US are trying to resolve with an international peace conference.” Russia is often criticized for its commitment to ship S-300 missile batteries to Syria as part of a contract signed several years ago. Moscow maintains that the deal does not violate international law, and may help stem violence in the country.

Permalink Zionist Jews Are At The Forefront Of Advancing Gun Control In The United States

It is time to call out the scumbags who historically have been mostly responsible for promoting gun control legislation in what have been obvious attempts to destroy the Second Amendment. At the forefront of these activities we find that most of these people are Zionist Jews. Even though this is a proven fact, there will undoubtedly be a number of pro-Zionist Hasbara Internet trolls who will cry racism, anti-Semitism and other rubbish to distract people from the obvious. Considering that Jews represent only a small percentage of the American population, why is it that many of the most vocal supporters of gun control just so happen to be Zionist Jews? This is a serious question that needs to be asked as it shows that a small minority of people are attempting to make it increasingly more difficult for the average law abiding American citizen to defend themselves.
