Permalink Obama, military generals clash over ISIL war strategy

The uneasy relationship between the White House and US military is on full display as President Barack Obama and his top generals continue to clash over the new strategy to combat the ISIL terrorist organization. Obama has authorized airstrikes against ISIL targets in Iraq and Syria, but has ruled out American boots on the ground in a combat role. US military officials have complained privately for weeks that airstrikes alone would not be sufficient to achieve the announced goal of deafening ISIL.

Permalink Europe unlikely to cut Russia off SWIFT — VTB bank CEO

The European Parliament called on the European Union on Thursday to consider cutting Russia off the SWIFT inter-bank financial message system. The European Union will not cut Russia off the SWIFT inter-bank financial system, Andrei Kostin, the chief executive officer VTB Group, Russia's second largest bank, said on Friday. "I think this is not going to happen. I would have called it an act of direct aggression against Russia's financial system with all subsequent consequences. This is a very tough measure," Kostin said at an international investment forum in Sochi.

Permalink Spying and storing: Assange says 'Google works like NSA'

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange equated Google with the National Security Agency and GCHQ, saying the tech giant has become “a privatized version of the NSA,” as it collects, stores, and indexes people’s data. He made his remarks to BBC and Sky News.
Google’s business model is the spy. It makes more than 80 percent of its money by collecting information about people, pooling it together, storing it, indexing it, building profiles of people to predict their interests and behavior, and then selling those profiles principally to advertisers, but also others,” Assange told BBC. “So the result is that Google, in terms of how it works, its actual practice, is almost identical to the National Security Agency or GCHQ,” the whistleblower argued. Google has been working with the NSA “in terms of contracts since at least 2002,” Assange told Sky News. “They are formally listed as part of the defense industrial base since 2009. They have been engaged with the Prism system, where nearly all information collected by Google is available to the NSA,” Assange said. “At the institutional level, Google is deeply involved in US foreign policy.” Google has tricked people into believing that it is “a playful, humane organization” and not a “big, bad US corporation,” Assange told BBC. “But in fact it has become just that...it is now arguably the most influential commercial organization.” “Google has now spread to every country, every single person, who has access to the internet.

Permalink Scotland: suspected electoral fraud

Police investigating alleged electoral fraud at polling stations in Glasgow after people find their votes had already been cast. Police in Glasgow are investigating ten cases of suspected electoral fraud. Voters turned up at polling stations to find that people had already voted using their names. Glasgow City Council confirmed that there had been 10 instances where people had gone to vote and found their names had already been crossed off the list. Spokesman Colin Edgar said: 'We've had a number of suggestions across the course of the day that people have turned up at the polling station to vote and they appear to have voted already. 'This is impersonation, if it turns out to be what it is. Last night police officers were present at the count to remove the ballot papers and keep them as evidence. The papers were from 10 different boxes across Glasgow, and not concentrated in one area.

Permalink Ukraine SITREP September 18, 17:30 UTC/Zulu: infighting everywhere

The Saker: The first sign of trouble became visible with Strelkov had to urgently come back to Donetsk to prevent the behind-the-scenes negotiations apparently taking place between some officials of the DNR and Ukie oligarchs including Akhmetov. Then came the news of the sudden removal of Strelkov followed by an almost simultaneous removal of most of the Novorussian leadership. In spite of that, the Novorussian leadership (Zakharchenko & Co.) appeared to be more than worthy successors to Strelkov and they did a stellar job implementing the counter-offensive plans apparently developed by Strelkov. Then came the Minsk negotiations with little-covered reports of an attempted coup by Vladimir Antiufeev who, before that, had been in charge of state security under Strelkov. Apparently, this coup was directed at Zakharchenko and it failed. What then happened to Antiufeev is still unclear, at least to me. Last I read he was being interrogated.

Permalink Gilad Atzmon's Homage to Klezmer Nick Cooper (funny)

Ahead of my performance in Houston two days ago, I found that a Klezmer named Nick Cooper went out of his way to jeopardize the event. He harassed the venue, pestered my followers and put into play every ADL trick in the book. I used the occasion to hit hard on Jewish 'Left' and its corrosive impact. The gathering in Layal (Palestinian) restaurant was a great success. The place was full to capacity. This is my tribute to Klezmer Cooper for the free promotion. +++ Gilad Atzmon Chased by a Klezmer

Permalink Buried Nazi gas chambers discovered by archaeologists in Poland

Archeologists have unearthed hidden Nazi gas chambers at the site of the Sobibor Nazi concentration camp in eastern Poland. An estimated 250,000 people were killed at the camp. Nazi forces tried to erase all traces of the camp's existence. An asphalt road was laid over the top of the site after SS leader Heinrich Himmler ordered its destruction. The orders came following an uprising against the camp’s staffers on October 14, 1943. Some 12 SS officers were killed in the plot, which involved prisoners telling camp guards they had salvaged well-made or expensive items in order to lure them to a place where they could be slaughtered. In the subsequent chaos, some 300 of the 600 Jewish inmates broke free. However, many were shot while attempting to escape. By the end of WWII, there were approximately 50 survivors. The archaeologists explored the site beneath the road and found rows of bricks, four pieces deep. They have determined that this is where the walls of the gas chambers once stood.

Gilad Atzmon Hot Off The Press: Were The Revisionists Correct All Along? || Israeli archaeologist Yoram Haimi reported today on Ynet (Hebrew) that his international team has now identified the location of a real Gas Chambers in Sobibor concentration camp. Haimi admitted that “Sobibor is the only place where you can witness an original Gas Chamber, the way it operated in reality.” If this is the case - if Sobibor is indeed the only place where an “original gas chamber” can be witnessed, then the Holocaust Revisionists who were subject to State terror and persecution, let alone endless harassment by the hands of Zionist and anti alike, were telling the truth all along. The Gas Chambers that have been exhibited to tourists were built after the war. This revelation is both embarrassing yet reassuring. Truth liberates us after all. The only question that is left open is whether Israeli archaeologist Haimi may get arrested once landing in Germany.
