President Barack Obama says the United States is prepared to expand its bombing campaign against ISIL terrorists and launch airstrikes in Syria. ● "I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL in Syria, as well as Iraq," Obama said during a speech delivered from the White House on Wednesday. "America will lead a broad coalition to roll back this terrorist threat," he added. The Pentagon announced that the United States already has conducted 154 airstrikes against ISIL targets in Iraq. During his speech, the US president outlined Washington’s strategy against the terrorists. "Our objective is clear: We will degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counterterrorism strategy," Obama said.

At least fourteen civilians, including women and children, have been killed in yet another airstrike by US-led forces in Afghanistan. ● An airstrike, which took place in Afghanistan's northeastern province of Kunar, left at least 14 people dead, most of them women and children. Local officials have told Press TV that the overnight air raid in the Badil District of the province also left 13 people injured. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has strongly condemned the latest civilian casualties by US forces in Kunar Province. Meanwhile, Afghan officials have launched an investigation into the deadly incident. The US military headquarters in Kabul has not yet commented on the matter. [...] According to the United Nations office in Kabul, over 2,000 civilians have been killed in Afghanistan over the past six months.

September 11, 2001, was a horrific and tragic day — nearly three thousand people perished in the terrorist attacks that drove a knife straight into the heart of America. The official story of 9/11 is believed by fewer and fewer people every year. Polls are beginning to show that there are many more people who are skeptical of the U.S. government’s story than those who blindly accept it. The objective of this work is not to explain or uncover exactly how 9/11 was done in the physical sense, since there is already a plethora of literature and video documentaries highlighting the scientific impossibilities of the official story. The Spanish region of Catalonia will call for a referendum on independence immediately after the people of Scotland hold their own vote, Xavier Trias, the mayor of Barcelona, wrote in an article published by The Guardian Thursday. ● "Barcelona's region, Catalonia, is also on a political journey, reflecting its history but above all the aspirations of its citizens. Catalonia suffered under the dictatorship, which ended in 1975. The Catalan language was banned. Today, Catalans have clearly and repeatedly expressed – peacefully – their desire to vote on Catalonia's independence," Xavier wrote. "In the last elections to the Catalan parliament, 70% of Catalans supported parties that seek a referendum on Catalonia's future status," the mayor noted. The Spanish region of Catalonia has been expecting the Scottish referendum to create a precedent for its own struggle for independence from Madrid. The Spanish government has followed the UK's lead and allowed a popular vote on the region's status set for November 9.
