Permalink 10 exposed to radiation at Fukushima nuclear plant

Ten workers at Japan's crippled nuclear plant were exposed Monday to small amounts of radiation while conducting cleanup activities, the plant's operator said. Tokyo Electric Power Co. said it is still investigating how the workers were contaminated at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, but that it may have been from radioactive dust. It said small amounts of radiation were found on the workers' faces and hair. [All radiation is deadly - 'small amounts' is TEPCO propaganda. Either the workers were exposed to radiation--or not. Also, I notice that the global corporate-run media has replaced the word 'radioactive' with 'toxic.' At CLG, we change it back.]

Permalink 400 US surface-to-air missiles were 'STOLEN' from Libya during the Benghazi attack, claims whistleblower

A former U.S. Attorney who represents whistle-blowers with knowledge of what happened when armed militants attacked the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya last year says 400 surface-to-air missiles were 'taken from Libya' during the attack, and that the U.S. intelligence community is terrified they might be used to shoot down airliners.
Joe diGenova, whose wife Victoria Toensing – a former deputy assistant attorney general – also represents Benghazi witnesses and others with knowledge of the terror attack, told WMAL radio that the loss of those missiles is also one the reason the U.S. State Department shut down 19 embassies across the Middle East last week.

Permalink CIA Director Brennan Confirmed as Reporter Michael Hastings Next Target

This week Elise Jordan, wife of famed journalist Michael Hastings, who recently died under suspicious circumstances, corroborated this reporter's sources that CIA Director, John Brennan was Hastings next exposé project (CNN clip).
Last month a source provided San Diego 6 News with an alarming email hacked from super secret CIA contractor Stratfor’s President Fred Burton. The email (link here) was posted on WikiLeaks and alleged that then Obama counter-terrorism Czar Brennan, was in charge of the government's continued crackdown or witch-hunt on investigative journalists.
An SDSU professor Morteza M. Mehrabadi, Professor and Interim Chair Areas of Specialization: Mechanics of Materials told San Diego 6 News that calculating the speed of Hastings car follows a simple mathematic equation. By using the video and the distance traveled (195 feet) as well as the seconds that lapsed prior to the explosion – in his opinion, the car was traveling roughly 35 mph.
That revelation is important because Jose, an employee of ALSCO a nearby business, and a witness to the accident told KTLA/Loud Labs (Scott Lane) the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and he saw sparks coming from the car and saw it explode BEFORE hitting the tree. The pre-explosion could possibly explain the flash of light on the video that preceded the appearance of the car in the video.

Permalink One of NSA servers used for XKeyscore located in US embassy in Moscow

One of servers that the National Security Agency is using to spy on the Internet users all over the globe is located in Moscow, Russia's Vedomosti business newspaper is reporting on Monday referring to the information Edward Snowden earlier leaked to the British Guardian. In its report the Russian newspaper mentions a NSA presentation published by the Guardian at the end of July that features a global map of 700 servers making up the XKeyscore program, the NSA’s tool for collecting information about web users. These servers are located in 150 countries, including Moscow, Kiev and Beijing, the Vedomosti says. The newspaper’s source close to the Russian secret services has claimed they have not checked the information yet, but suggest that the server is placed on the territory of the US embassy in Moscow. The NSA and the US Embassy in Moscow have both declined to comment on the information.

Permalink Russian Jews outraged after Stephen Fry compared gay propaganda ban to Nazi Germany

Fry, an openly gay Jewish-British writer, actor, and television host, urged UK Prime Minister David Cameron and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to boycott the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. The move was in response to a recently adopted Russian law which prohibits the propaganda of homosexuality among minors. In an open letter to Cameron and the IOC, he accused Russia of “making scapegoats of gay people, just as Hitler did Jews.” The actor also stated that President Putin “is eerily repeating the insane crime” of Hitler, “only this time against LGBT Russians.” Russia’s Jewish community said it is outraged by Fry’s rhetoric, calling it a provocation. “Unfortunately, yet again we see people attempting to use sacred memory about the genocide against the Jews and the Holocaust for their own purposes,” Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Ben Lazar, told ITAR-TASS on Monday. He believes that such cynicism insults the memory of millions of people who were murdered during World War II “because of their nationality and faith.” The Chief Rabbi emphasized that the gay propaganda ban is in no way aimed at violating the rights of LGBT individuals, but rather serves to protect children “who are open to any kind of influence” from issues surrounding homosexuality.

Gilad Atzmon: Fry-Up Historical analogies are dangerous territory, especially when the necessary and even elementary scholarship is lacking. Needless to say that I oppose any form of abuse of human right against Jews, LGBTs, Palestinians or anyone else. However, I also oppose the emerging lame culture of sound bites and empty slogans in which Fry is, unfortunately, a leading exponent.

Permalink Evidence of Viking Outpost Found in Canada

For the past 50 years—since the discovery of a thousand-year-old Viking way station in Newfoundland—archaeologists and amateur historians have combed North America's east coast searching for traces of Viking visitors.
It has been a long, fruitless quest, littered with bizarre claims and embarrassing failures. But at a conference in Canada earlier this month, archaeologist Patricia Sutherland announced new evidence that points strongly to the discovery of the second Viking outpost ever discovered in the Americas.
While digging in the ruins of a centuries-old building on Baffin Island (map), far above the Arctic Circle, a team led by Sutherland, adjunct professor of archaeology at Memorial University in Newfoundland and a research fellow at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, found some very intriguing whetstones. Wear grooves in the blade-sharpening tools bear traces of copper alloys such as bronze—materials known to have been made by Viking metalsmiths but unknown among the Arctic's native inhabitants.
Taken together with her earlier discoveries, Sutherland's new findings further strengthen the case for a Viking camp on Baffin Island. "While her evidence was compelling before, I find it convincing now," said James Tuck, professor emeritus of archaeology, also at Memorial University.

Permalink Dutch Prince Friso dies after year in coma

Dutch Prince Johan Friso has died after a year and a half in a coma following an accident at an Austrian ski resort, officials say. Prince Friso, who was 44, was moved from hospital in London back to the Netherlands last month, but had since suffered complications. He was hit by an avalanche in February 2012 and buried for 15 minutes. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are said to be on their way home from a holiday in Greece. "Prince Friso has died of complications related to the hypoxic brain injury, which he suffered as the result of his skiing accident in Lech, Austria on 17 February 2012," a royal palace statement said.

Permalink EU Refuses to Fund Israel

“Settling” constitutes a warcime according to international law and ICC statute. Even under US’ own military legislations’. EU plans to restrict funding of Israeli bodies connected to East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Golan Heights. The state of Israel refuses to sign any future agreements acknowledging that Israel lacks sovereignty of regions beyond the ’67 borders. The new EU guidelines restrict funding and financial investment, including grants, stipends, scholarships, and prizes to Israeli bodies with direct or indirect connection to the continued occupation of Palestinian territories. The guidelines also require any agreement signed between the EU and Israel to contain a clause stating that settlements in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Golan Heights are not considered a part of the State of Israel. The restrictions will take effect on January,1 2014.
