Permalink Poor Grow Poorer : Richest 1% Has Captured America's Wealth

"The war against working people should be understood to be a real war... Specifically in the U.S., which happens to have a highly class-conscious business class... And they have long seen themselves as fighting a bitter class war, except they don't want anybody else to know about it." -- Noam Chomsky

Permalink US [Nato] raid kills 27 Afghan civilians

Aghanistan government officials say at least 19 civilians have been killed by a Nato air attack on a convoy of vehicles in Uruzgan, a province in the country's south. Isaf, Nato's force in Afghanistan, did not provide a figure of how many died. Amanullah Hothaki, the head of the provincial council for Uruzgan, said 19 people were killed in the attack, which hit three minibuses as they drove down a main road. Permalink At last one EU country has the guts to pull out of Afghanistan

It was so uplifting to see the Government of the Netherlands make a decision to pull out of Afghanistan. This is the first major NATO partner to make such a decision and hopefully this will paint a very clear picture to the other EU members that this war has nothing to do with democracy or terrorism. The people have a last seen what hides behind this unnecessary war and realize that its basis was formed on a pack of lies. We again see that the true reason for going to war was greed for economic growth and to get their hands on the oil and gas reserves in the Middle East Region. AlterNet: What Makes Us Think We Can Help "Govern" Afghanistan? Why do American officials think they have the special ability to teach Afghans to embark on good governance in their country if we can't do it in Washington?

Permalink Poland admits role in CIA rendition programme

The Polish authorities have for the first time admitted their involvement in the CIA's secret programme for the rendition of high-level terrorist suspects from Iraq and Afghanistan, it emerged today. After years of stonewalling, Warsaw's air control service confirmed that at least six CIA flights had landed at a disused military air base in northern Poland in 2003. "It is time for the authorities to provide a full accounting of Poland's role in rendition," Adam Bodnar, of the Warsaw-based Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, said. "These flight records reinforce the troubling findings of official European inquiries and global human rights groups, showing complicity with CIA abuse across Europe." Permalink BIG BROTHER 2010: Unmanned drones set to fly anywhere in Britain

Drones are of interest to the military and the police as surveillance tools, and could be used by immigration authorities for patrolling Britain's coastline. But concerns have been raised because the UK is already one of the most "watched" countries in Europe, with the proliferation of CCTV cameras.

Permalink BBC an arm of MI6, says police chief of Iran

Iran’s police chief has accused the BBC of being an arm of MI6 and warned of severe punishment for any Iranians in contact with the organisation. General Ismail Ahmadi Moghaddam, whose police forces have played a key role in the government crackdown on protesters since the disputed presidential election last June, was quoted by the IRNA news agency as saying that opposition activists had co-operated with the BBC and the Voice of America (VOA) “with the aim of weakening and overthrowing the system”. “The BBC is the arm of MI6, and VOA belongs to the CIA,” he said. “Those who co-operate with foreign services through transmitting photos, reports, news and anti-revolutionary actions . . . should know that all their actions are monitored. We will settle accounts with them when the time comes.” The People's Voice: BBC: Imperial Tool.

Permalink Climate scientists withdraw journal claims of rising sea levels

Study claimed in 2009 that sea levels would rise by up to 82cm by the end of century – but the report's author now says true estimate is still unknown. EU Referendum: Credo in unum deum: George F Will in The Washington Post argues that, "A religion is what the faith in catastrophic man-made global warming has become." Thus, he tells us, "It is now a tissue of assertions impervious to evidence, assertions that everything, including a historic blizzard, supposedly confirms and nothing, not even the absence of warming, can falsify." He is not the first to make such an observation, but to find such expression the The Washington Post is a significant step on the road to deprogramming a population which has been held in the thrall of this false creed for far too long. WUWT: New Paper in Science: Sea level 81,000 years ago was 1 meter higher while CO2 was lower.

Permalink 75 reasons to be skeptical of "global warming"

* Carbon dioxide contributes to only 4.2 - 8.4% of the greenhouse gas effect
* Only approximately 4% of carbon dioxide is man-made
* Water vapor accounts for 90 - 95% of the green house gas effect
* 99.99% of water vapor is natural, meaning that no amount of deindustrialization could get rid of it
* There have been many times when the temperature has been higher than it is now including the Medieval Warming Period, the Holocene, the Jurassic, and the Eemian
* Increases in carbon dioxide follow increases in temperature by about 800 years, not precede them

Permalink 50 U.S. war criminals not off hook

John Yoo, Jay Bybee and the others among the top fifty United States war criminals are not off the hook just because part of heads of high-level corruption says so according to David Swanson today, writing about the rapidly increasing peaceful mass mobilization occurring to hold the fascist, human rights violating, war criminals accountable.

These war criminals (See video below) are responsible for one million dead Iraqis and an untold number of targeted individuals' lives ruined, not only the 60,000 kidnapped and tortured individuals. Focusing only on the torture issue lends to Disinformation according to Swanson. Torture is only one among many war crimes requring legal action.

Becky Bond, Political Director of CREDO Action from Working Assets has issued a call to Americans to oppose the highest-level corruption, highlighting ABC News last weekend when former Vice President Dick Cheney confessed to playing a key role in the commission of war crimes during the Bush administration. "I was a big supporter of waterboarding," boasted Cheney.

Permalink Argentinian hackers hoist flag on English language paper website as Falklands stand-off moves to cyberspace
