Permalink Kerry warns of world war over Crimea

US Secretary of State John Kerry has warned Russia about the Ukraine crisis, saying the “nationalistic fervor” in Crimea is similar to the build-up before World War II. During a speech at the State Department on Tuesday, Kerry said he saw a “nationalist fervor which could, in fact, infect in ways that could be very, very dangerous. All you have to do is go back and read in history of the lead up to World War II, and the passions that were released with that kind of nationalistic fervor.” The top US diplomat said Russian President Vladimir Putin violated international law by deciding to annex Crimea, declaring that his move will have a “cost attached.” He was reacting to Crimea's union with the Russian Federation following Sunday’s referendum. Nearly 97 percent of voters in Crimea voted on March 16 to secede from Ukraine in favor of joining Russia. It “doesn’t legitimize just taking what you want because you want it or because you’re angry about the end of the Cold War or the end of the Soviet Union or whatever it is,” Kerry argued.

Permalink Pro-Russian forces enter Ukraine navy's Black Sea HQ

Pro-Russian self-defence forces have entered the Ukrainian navy's Black Sea headquarters in Sevastopol and raised the Russian flag above the building less that 24 hours after Vladimir Putin announced the annexation reunification of Crimea in a searing speech to political elites in Moscow. In an hour-long speech in the Kremlin on Wednesday -- likely to go down as one of the defining moments of his long rule governing over Russia -- Putin said western politicians "call something white today and black tomorrow" and aired a long list of foreign policy grievances going back to 2000, saying "we were cheated again and again, with decisions being taken behind our back".

Permalink Israel must go solo to strike Iran: Yaalon

Israel’s minister for military affairs says Tel Aviv must go it alone in taking action against Iran over its nuclear energy program. We had thought the ones who should lead the campaign against Iran is the United States,” Moshe Yaalon said during an event at Tel Aviv University on Tuesday. “But at some stage the United States entered into negotiations with them, and unhappily, when it comes to negotiating at a Persian bazaar, the Iranians are better,” he added. Echoing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's threats of unilateral military action against Iran, Yaalon said the US is not going to do anything to stop Tehran's nuclear activities and Israel must act alone.

Permalink Against Our Better Judgment: The hidden history of how the U.S. was used to create Israel By Alison Weir

A book review by Gilad Atzmon || Alison Weir’s new book is by far the most comprehensive and precise expose of the depth of Zionist interference with American life in general and the politics of the United States in particular. It is a book every American should obtain, read and discuss openly. In spite of its succinctness, the book is saturated with information and insights that are backed by valuable historical references and primary source quotes. Since I am an avid reader of modern Jewish history, I was surprised to learn so much from such a relatively short text. The story that is told by Weir is devastating – for more than a century, a matrix of Jewish political lobbies, pressure groups, media operators and agents within the American government and legal system have been dominating the United States' public life as well as its foreign policy. Consequently, the United States has been operating against its own best interests. It has compromised its most precious principles and even its own security. [...] Weir is an American patriot. She examines the extensive Zionist operation that hijacked her country and robbed the United States of its most precious values. Weir points out that time after time there has been an ethical and political clash between American national interests and the policies dictated by the Jewish pressure groups. Against Our Better Judgment throws light on the depth, intensity and the efficiency of Zionist operators within America. The book reveals a ferocious, unified and coordinated campaign by the Zionists, and it is far from clear that the American people can find the political and cultural means to deal with this form of foreign and immoral intervention. Weir’s new book is a crucial and bold step in an attempt of a nation to restore its immune system. [You can find it here: Barnes & Noble]

Permalink The NSA records “every single” phone call in a targeted country

The National Security Agency (NSA) has developed and deployed a system capable of recording “100 percent” of the telephone calls made by residents of a targeted foreign country, according to documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden to the Washington Post and published on Tuesday. At the request of US officials, the Post has not revealed which country is being subject to the program, or what other countries the NSA is seeking to target. The newspaper reported that “With up to 30 days of recorded conversations in hand, the NSA can pull an instant history of the subject’s movements, associates and plans.” The Post reported that other intelligence agencies also have access to the program. [...] The revelations reaffirm the statements of Edward Snowden—which the US government continues to deny—that the NSA and other intelligence agencies operate a massive spying apparatus, inside which the telephone calls of millions of Americans are systematically recorded, transcribed, archived, and listened to in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution.
