Permalink Over 3,000 US prisoners serving life without parole for non-violent crimes

At about 12.40pm on 2 January 1996, Timothy Jackson took a jacket from the Maison Blanche department store in New Orleans, draped it over his arm, and walked out of the store without paying for it. When he was accosted by a security guard, Jackson said: “I just needed another jacket, man.” A few months later Jackson was convicted of shoplifting and sent to Angola prison in Louisiana. That was 16 years ago. Today he is still incarcerated in Angola, and will stay there for the rest of his natural life having been condemned to die in jail. All for the theft of a jacket, worth $159.

Permalink Palestinian kids die in settler attack

Palestine News Network (PNN) reported on Thursday that the incident took place when a group of settlers attacked the house of the Palestinian villagers, breaking its windows and setting it on fire. The settlers also wrote racist words on the walls. The report added that three other adults suffered injuries in the brutal incident. Such attacks are common across the occupied West Bank as Israeli settlers have on numerous occasions desecrated mosques and vandalized Palestinian cemeteries. Israeli troops usually refuse to intervene to prevent such acts of aggression.

Permalink US Blocks Britain’s Release of Iraq War Report

Blair's Pre-War Talks With Bush 'Secret' by US Orders. The British government has invested a lot of effort into a four-year-long inquiry into the Iraq War headed by Sir John Chilcot, but the report never seems to come out. Diplomatic sources are now saying that this is because of explicit US orders, and that the report, if released at all, may end up heavily redacted at the Obama Administration’s insistence. A major portion of the inquiry centered on then-Prime Minister Tony Blair lying Britain into war, and therefore focuses on the pre-war plotting by Blair and then-US President George W. Bush. That’s apparently the rub, with the US government insisting all of those conversations, and even just Tony Blair’s part, are adjacent to a US president and therefore the property of the US government, which has decided everything is classified. The argument is that neither Chilcot nor anyone else in the British government has the authority to decide which of the documents can be published, so instead they’re just letting the Obama Administration dictate terms, and that means everything is secret.

Permalink UK Prime Minister David Cameron proclaims austerity cuts to be “permanent”

Surrounded by the opulence of the Guildhall’s grandest room, Cameron addressed 900 rich and well-pampered guests enjoying a sumptuous banquet, courtesy of the City of London Corporation’s £12 million fund for ceremony and hospitality. Speaking from a gold throne and gilded lectern, Cameron said the government’s main priority was “an economy with a state we can afford”.
While the right wing media hailed Cameron’s speech, the nominally liberal press declared they were taken back by Cameron’s stated aim that austerity should be permanent. The Guardian and the New Statesman both cited Cameron’s claim on coming to office in 2010 at the head of a coalition with the Liberal Democrats that “I didn’t come into politics to make cuts,” in order to claim that the prime minister had changed tack. This is nonsense, designed to chloroform their readers. In April 2009, more than a year before becoming prime minister, Cameron had declared that any government led by him would usher in an “age of austerity”. The media are well aware that this is the real agenda of the coalition—one that is shared by the Labour Party. If they are shocked it is only because Cameron has let the dirty secret of Britain’s ruling elite out of the bag.

Permalink Israel Killed John F. Kennedy and it wants to Enslave or Exterminate You

Les Visible: Israel Killed John F. Kennedy and it wants to Enslave or Exterminate You As we approach the 50th anniversary of the murder of John F. Kennedy, the truth of that event needs stating. The most popular president of the country, now gutted and in ruins at the hands of monsters, was killed by those same monsters. Whether he was killed because he opposed their nuclear program, or whether he was killed because of his preliminary effort at getting rid of the (Tribe owned and operated) Federal Reserve, or whether they killed him because they didn't like his hairstyle is immaterial. The fact is, they killed him.

Permalink Untrustworthy and dishonest’: Obama's popularity hits all time low

US President Barack Obama's popularity has hit an all-time low, with a majority of Americans now saying he is dishonest, untrustworthy and not competent to govern, according to a new national poll. Overall, only 39 percent of Americans now approve of the job President Obama is doing, his lowest approval rating ever registered by the respected Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. Fifty-four percent, meanwhile, disapprove of his performance. Voters in every age and income bracket view his performance negatively, with senior citizens giving him a particularly low 36 percent approval mark. The biggest group to abandon the presidential ship was women voters, with his overall approval rating dropping to 40 percent. Fifty-one percent, on the other hand, disapprove of his performance. Also for the first time, only 44 percent of Americans now view Obama as trustworthy and honest, while 52 percent say he’s not; the first time a majority of Americans have doubted his credibility. He also slumped on efficacy marks, with 53 percent of Americans now saying his administration is not competently running the government, while 43 percent retain faith in his ability to govern. President Obama's lowest score before the polling results were released on Tuesday was a 55 - 41 percent disapproval in an October 2011 survey. "Any Democrat with an 11-point approval deficit among women is in trouble. And any elected official with an 8-point trust deficit is in serious trouble," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
