Permalink Julian Assange loses appeal against extradition

Julian Assange founder of Wikileaks, the whistle-blowing website, lost his appeal in the highest British Court against extradition to Sweden on rape and sexual molestation charges. - Assange, did not attend the 10-minutes judgment passed down by British Supreme Court where dozens of supporters waving placards in support for his cause stood outside the entrance. Judge Nicholas Phillips presiding over the seven-member panel told the court the judgment “was not an easy decision to make." Assange’s defense argument was that the Swedish prosecutor who issued the European Arrest Warrant demanding his extradition was not a valid judicial authority. Phillips told the court that the panel eventually gave a majority vote of five to two ruling that “the Swedish public prosecutor was a judicial authority and the request for Mr. Assange’s extradition has been lawfully made and his appeal against extradition is accordingly dismissed.” Dinah Rose, Assange’s defense attorney, was given two weeks to consider the judgment and confer with her client and make a further application and possibly reopen the case on a legal point.

Permalink Israel hints it created Flame malware

Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Ya'alon has strongly hinted that Israel was involved in creating the computer virus Flame -- a new Stuxnet-like espionage malware -- to sabotage Iran’s nuclear plans. - Speaking in an interview with Israel’s Army Radio on Tuesday, Ya'alon expressed support for the creation of the virus and similar tools, saying it "opens up all kinds of possibilities.” He also noted that it is reasonable for anyone who sees Iran as a threat to take such steps, saying that "whoever sees the Iranian threat as a serious threat would be likely to take different steps, including these, in order to hurt them." Ya'alon made the remarks only hours after a Russian lab discovered the new virus. The computer security firm Kaspersky Lab, one of the world's top virus-hunting agencies, said the virus is being used as a cyber weapon to attack entities in several countries. The Kaspersky Lab has also announced that the worm is the most malicious ever and is designed to gather intelligence, adding that it can turn on PC microphones to record conversations taking place near the computer, take screenshots, log instant messaging chats, gather data files, and remotely change settings on computers.

[...] Evidence suggest that the virus, dubbed Flame, may have been built on behalf of the same nation or nations that commissioned the Stuxnet worm that attacked Iran’s nuclear program in 2010, according to Kaspersky Lab, the Russian cyber security software maker that took credit for discovering the infections. Permalink Syrian diplomats expelled after Houla massacre

Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman with Gen.
Carl B. Jensen. Feltman is reportedly one of the brains
behind the CIA death squads.

The US has joined Britain, France, a host of other EU countries, Australia and Canada in expelling Syrian diplomats in a chorus of global outrage at the massacre of more than 100 people, including scores of children, in Houla.

On a day when the UN reported that many of those killed at the weekend had been shot at close range, France's president François Hollande told French television that military intervention could not be ruled out but had to be backed by the UN security council. The UN and Arab League's special envoy, Kofi Annan, who was in Damascus for talks with president Bashar al-Assad, described the situation as a "tipping point". Syria has denied responsibility for the atrocity, calling it a "terrorist massacre".

The UN said that most of the 108 victims of the Houla massacre were shot at close range, including women, children and entire families gunned down in their homes. Survivors and witnesses cited by the UN blamed the house-to-house killings on pro-government thugs known as shabiha. Rupert Colville, spokesman for the UN high commissioner for human rights, said: "What is very clear is this was an absolutely abominable event that took place in Houla, and at least a substantial part of it was summary executions of civilians, women and children. At this point, it looks like entire families were shot in their houses."

Clearly not the Syrian government. But western-backed terrorist groups who have been working to destabilize the country for over one year now, do clearly benefit. Who would be the chief suspect for this latest massacre? How about the western-backed terrorists in Syria – the very same terrorist groups admitted to their own bombing campaign that killed many innocent people in Syria only weeks ago. Important to add here also, that the latest child massacre in Syria has been reported as being “done with knives” – which doesn’t sound like a government attack to any intelligent reader. alt=

Permalink The reason why The Guardian of the UK is a major league Soros tool

Late on Monday night, the Russian foreign ministry launched an unprecedented attack on Michael McFaul, the US ambassador to Moscow, unleashing nine tweets in the space of an hour. - "The foreign ministry is utterly shocked at U.S. Aambassador Michael McFaul's remarks during a speech to students at the HSE," the onslaught began, referring to a speech last week on US-Russia relations to Moscow's higher school of economics. The foreign ministry added that McFaul had issued a "deliberate distortion" of numerous aspects of US-Russia relations, criticising him as "unprofessional" and challenging US ownership of a military base in the ex-Soviet country of Kyrygzstan.

Permalink Anger over Christine Lagarde's tax-free salary

It was called her "Let them eat cake" moment. Now Greece will be saying: "Make her pay tax". - The IMF chief Christine Lagarde was accused of hypocrisy yesterday after it emerged that she pays no income tax – just days after blaming the Greeks for causing their financial peril by dodging their own bills. The managing director of the International Monetary Fund is paid a salary of $467,940 (£298,675), automatically increased every year according to inflation. On top of that she receives an allowance of $83,760 – payable without "justification" – and additional expenses for entertainment, making her total package worth more than the amount received by US President Barack Obama according to reports last night. Unlike Mr Obama, however, she does not have to pay any tax on this substantial income because of her diplomatic status.

Permalink 18,000 years in jail: Turkish court charges Israeli officers over Gaza flotilla deaths

A Turkish judicial panel has unanimously approved demands for a sentence of combined 18,000 years behind bars for IDF ex-chief of staff and other officials responsible for the murders of activists on the Mavi Marmara cruise ship in 2010.

The Istanbul court has formally pressed charges against four senior officers of the Israeli Defense Forces who commanded the operation against the Gaza flotilla two years ago. Nine passengers of a Turkish ship were killed as they tried to bring aid to Gaza, the subject of an Israeli military blockade. The four officers face nine consecutive life terms in prison – one for each of the casualties aboard the Mavi Marmara – for “inciting to kill monstrously, and by torturing,” reports Turkey’s state-run agency Anadolu. This makes up for a combined 18,000 years. The indictment also includes 490 victims and complainants, out of them 189 were injured during the raid. In Israel, former military chief Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, along with the former heads of the navy, air force intelligence and military intelligence, Eliezer Marom, Amos Yadlin and Avishai Levi, are not considered criminals. Therefore it is unlikely they will be brought before Turkey's judicial system. Still, in a symbolic move the men could be convicted in absentia.

Permalink "Retired" Mossad agent appears in London court in African diamond battle between Israeli-Russian tycoons

A "retired" Mossad agent appeared before a London court today [29 May 2012] in the midst of a battle between two Israeli-Russian tycoons over African diamond profits. - Avinoam Dagan, who would only reveal his position in the [in]famous Israeli intelligence service was “high ranking”, was giving evidence on behalf Arkady Gaydamak. Mr Gaydamak, 60, who recently won an appeal against an arms dealing conviction in the French courts, is claiming that fellow businessman Lev Leviev owes him in the region of $1 billion after the two men went into a venture to sell Angolan diamonds. The deal had been agreed by the country's government in the nineties as it tried to wrest control of the gems from UNITA rebels during the bloody civil war. The case centres around an document Mr Gaydamak insists they signed in December 2001, in which he agreed that Mr Leviev would hold his equal share from the Angolan Diamond Selling Corporation while he maintained a low profile because of the “politically motivated” French charges.

Lawmakers in Holland have voted to strike down the international Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), slammed by many as a free speech and information access choker. Dutch MPs have also ruled the government will never sign any such agreement. - The Dutch parliamentarians have opted not to wait for the EU’s vote on ACTA which is set for June, with consultations kicking off already this Thursday. "The treaty should be taken off table, whatever the decision the European Parliament should take," said MP Kees Verhoeven, a major sponsor of Tuesday’s motion in the Dutch Parliament.
