US subpoenas Wikileaks tweets, and why this could affect you. The US government has subpoenaed Twitter in a bid to support an ongoing criminal investigation into whether Wikileaks and people involved or connected to Wikileaks, including an Icelandic member of parliament, broke the law. According to Wikileaks lawyer Mark Stephens live on the BBC News a short time ago, it is believed Facebook and Google (see here) have also been contacted regarding Wikileaks members and potential whistleblowers.

Permalink Former Brazilian President Inácio Lula da Silva Speaks Out in Defense of WikiLeaks

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Thursday expressed "solidarity" with jailed WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, criticising the Australian activist's arrest as a blow against "freedom of expression." At a public event in the Brazilian capital, Lula blasted Assange's arrest and expressed "solidarity with exposing documents" which WikiLeaks has claimed as its mandate. Assange has "exposed a diplomacy that had appeared unreachable," said Lula, who criticised of a failure of other governments to challenge Assange's detention. "They have arrested him and I don't hear so much as a single protest for freedom of expression," he said.

Permalink Giffords shooter shows pattern of psychiatric derangement; no clear political affiliation

Of all the senseless acts of violence we've seen over the years, today's shooting at a Gabrielle Giffords public event in Tucson really strikes home. I spent time in the company of "Gabby" Giffords and met many members of her staff during her first run for Congress. I saw her as a "balanced" representative (a former Republican turned Democrat who still, for example, supported Second Amendment rights) who I thought could bring some new energy into Washington, which seems to perpetually suffer from "Good 'Old Boys" syndrome.

That she has been violently attacked by an individual who is obviously mentally deranged is shocking and extremely disturbing. Almost as disturbing is how the mainstream media has latched onto this story as a way to demonize anyone who believes in the U.S. Constitution. The shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner, is, by any sensible interpretation, mentally deranged. Yes, he mentioned the Constitution among his various ramblings, but he also listed the Communist Manifesto as being among his favorite books. In addition, he released a YouTube video containing unintelligible ramblings of repeated nonsense phrases, including references to the government taking away "grammar," of having a colorful bird on his shoulder, brainwashing and what he called "conscience dreaming."

Permalink Iran police arrest ‘female American spy,’ deputy border chief says

Iranian border police have arrested a foreign woman on suspicion of spying, a police official told state radio on Saturday. The semi-official Fars new agency initially quoted Ahmad Geravand, deputy commander of state border police, as telling a news conference his guards had seized a "female American spy," but Geravand later said her nationality was not clear. The woman was captured at Jolfa, on Iran's northern border with Azerbaijan, close to Armenia. Fars said she had entered from Armenia. "On January 5 a woman with foreign citizenship who was at the Jolfa border filming police stations and all the border traffic with advanced cameras was arrested by Jolfa border forces," Geravand told national radio in an interview. "She once said she was an American citizen but at other times she said she was a Swiss citizen. She mentioned the names of different countries," he said.

Permalink George Soros: The United States Must Stop Resisting The Orderly Decline Of The Dollar, The Coming Global Currency And The New World Order -Video

So exactly what is it that George Soros is trying to accomplish? Well, in a nutshell, what he wants is a Big Brother-style one world government based on extreme European-style socialism, strict population control and the radical green agenda. It would be a world where the state tightly regulates everything that we do for the greater benefit of the environment and of society as a whole.

However, Soros is not the "mastermind of the New World Order" that some have tried to make him out to be. The truth is that to those in the international banking elite, Soros is considered to be something of a "black sheep" and an "outsider". Much of what Soros is trying to accomplish lines up with the goals of the international banking elite, but what they don't like is that Soros won't stop publicly talking about a global currency and a "New World Order". Of course the international banking elite very much want a global currency and a "New World Order", but what they don't need is a "squeaky wheel" like Soros running around drawing unneeded attention to those goals.

Permalink Medics shocked at number of child deformity after last Gaza war

BEIRUT, (PIC)-- A Lebanon-based doctors association interested in breaking the Gaza siege expressed shock over the number of Gaza children who were deformed by internationally-banned weapons in the last Israeli war on Gaza.

Briefing a Friday press conference in Beirut after a trip to the Gaza Strip to assess its medical situation, the campaign said the Strip was rife with children deformed by white phosphorus, depleted uranium, napalm, cluster bombs, and other internationally-prohibited arms in the last Gaza war.

The medical association said there was a sharp shortage in critically needed medicines in the Strip. The Gaza health ministry has made frequent accusations recently against the West Bank-governing Palestinian Authority of withholding hundreds of out of stock medical supplies.

Meanwhile, a Gaza man died Saturday waiting to cross Israeli borders to receive treatment. The victim, Anas Jumaa Salih, suffered from blockage of the hepatic venous circulation. Israeli authorities denied his entry through the northern Gaza Strip Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing.

The Gaza health ministry appealed to all international and human rights groups to swiftly intervene to save the patients in Gaza, placing some of the blame on the West Bank government for withholding vital medicines.

Permalink A senile ‘fixation’

The unexpected French success of “Indignez vous!” (or “Cry Out”), the 30-page call to non-violent arms by 93-year-old Stephane Hessel — former member of the French Resistance, concentration camp survivor and diplomat — has been met with mild wonder. After all, the initial run of 8,000 is now approaching 800,000 — outpacing famed French novelist Michel Houellebecq. In his essay Hessel calls for the citizenry to rise up, as he did against the Nazis, to confront the tyranny of the markets, big finance and the governments that are all too cozy and enabling of them. But the thin tome, made up of a mere 13 pages of actual text, is not without its critics. On one of his pages, Hessel takes Israel to task for its actions in Gaza. “Jews themselves perpetrating war crimes is intolerable,” Hessel writes.
