Permalink Israel: Knesset members (48) sign a petition…against Palestine

Forty-eight Knesset members have signed a petition calling for the boycott of Israeli companies involved in building the new Palestinian city of Rawabi. The petition also has called on the Israeli cabinet to boycott the 20 Israeli companies that agreed to assist in the building the first modern Palestinian city in the West Bank. The suppliers promised not to make use of products or services from illegal settlements in the construction.

According to the signatories, these companies “agreed to sign a contract in which they will cooperate with a Palestinian boycott of products and services in what the Palestinians called ‘occupied East Jerusalem’, ‘occupied West Bank’, ‘occupied Gaza Strip’, ‘occupied Golan Heights’.” The document urges “cabinet ministers, regardless of factions, to refrain from any business dealings with those Israeli companies who signed or will sign on this shameful contract, which is in cooperation with Palestinian economic terrorism.”

Permalink AIPAC released classified info but - unlike Wikileaks - Obama's not going after it

Leaks to AIPAC Said to be “Common”. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the pro-Israel lobby organization, has often received and distributed confidential government information, including classified materials, asserted former AIPAC official Steven J. Rosen in his pending lawsuit against the organization. “There is evidence that the receipt and distribution of confidential foreign policy information is a common practice for AlPAC,” he argued in a December 14 legal filing (pdf). The organization disputes that claim.

Permalink WikiLeaks: Locking Up Whistleblower Bradley Manning in Solitary Confinement Puts America's Depravity on Full Display

We as American citizens should not accept torture by our government, and that's what the military is doing to Bradley Manning.

The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons. ~ Fyodor Dostoevsky

In the earliest days of our Republic, a group of well-meaning Philadelphia Quakers set out to reform the prison system. The idea was to remove convicts from the mayhem and corruption of overcrowded jails to solitary cells where sinners would return to mental and spiritual health through reflection. In the Walnut Street Jail, no windows would distract the prisoners with street life; no conversation would disturb their penitence. Alone with God, they would be rehabilitated. There was a small problem. Many of the prisoners went insane.

Permalink US national debt climbs to $14 trillion

The US national debt has climbed to a record high of over $14 trillion amid concerns that the figure might surpass the debt ceiling set by the Congress. The US Treasury reported on Tuesday that the national debt gained over $1 trillion since June, soaring to $14.02 trillion on December 31 from $13 trillion on June 1, as a fresh showdown between Democrats and Republicans looms large in deciding how the government should avert defaulting on its obligations, CBS News reported. According to new statistics, the national debt stood at a whopping $14,025,215,218,708.52 - or $126,632 for every American taxpayer.

Meanwhile, concerns are running high that the increase could finally hit the statutory debt limit of $14.294 trillion set by the Congress and signed into law by US President Barak Obama in February last year. Republicans, who have constantly campaigned on the platform of fiscal responsibility, have vowed to block an increase in the US debt ceiling, insisting that federal spending and unfunded government liabilities on entitlement programs should be slashed. Last year, the US Congress voted to raise the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion.

Permalink US use of DU: A war crime

While the American scientists and scholars have played a key role in the intellectual evolution of mankind, its wealthy elite and agents - the rulers of the US - have committed the greatest crimes against humanity. These horrific crimes continue unabated with silent intensity. With some exceptions, the “free” US media has maintained complete silence on these crimes. The reason for this silence has to do with the vested interests of media owners - their interests lie in suppressing humanity. Many conscientious and aware Americans do raise their voice against these crimes, but the torment and agony of these American citizens does not seem to have any effect on the pet journalists of media owners. This insensitivity is drowning the United States of America and with it the rest of the world.

One of the most diabolical advances in weaponry is the use of uranium that can no longer be used in reactors. This is known as depleted uranium. It is radioactive. After a certain processing, it can be converted into the hardest material on earth. A steel bullet will not penetrate a steel tank. However, a bullet made of depleted uranium will penetrate through the steel body of the tank and explode inside the tank. Uranium has the property that when heated it burns intensely. In powder form, uranium automatically catches fire when heated.

Permalink Texas man declared innocent after 30 years in prison

Cornelius Dupree Jr., 51 years old, has been formally cleared of charges that had landed him in a Texas prison for 30 years. In a Dallas courtroom on Tuesday, State District Judge Don Adams told Dupree, “You’re free to go,” exonerating him of a 1980 conviction for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Dupree was freed following examination of DNA that proved he was not the perpetrator in the 1979 crime. He served 30 years of a 75-year sentence before he was granted parole this past July. About a week after his release on parole, the DNA test results came back proving he was innocent.

Cornelius Dupree served more time behind bars that any other DNA exoneree in Texas. Since 2001, 41 wrongfully convicted inmates in the state have been freed after DNA evidence proved their innocence—more than in any other state, according to the New York-based Innocence Project, which represents Dupree.
