Permalink Attorney General Baroness Scotland may block Israeli war crimes warrants

The Attorney General could be given a veto over arrest warrants for foreign leaders in an attempt to placate Israeli ministers who fear war crimes prosecutions if they visit Britain. Baroness Scotland of Asthal, who is in Jerusalem, discussed an amendment to British law that would give her office the power to review arrest warrants in private prosecutions against political figures, according to Foreign Ministry sources. Israel warned that a failure to resolve the situation soon would have consequences for both countries. AWIP: The impunity of Israel and its allies will carry a price. Grovel, grovel, bow and scrape: kowtow, crawl and lick their boots. Fawn and flatter, curry favor from morning until late at night... Permalink The president of Iceland refuses to sign a legislation to reimbuse nearly $5.7bn lost by British and Dutch savers in the failed Icelandic banks

Iceland's president refused on Tuesday to sign into law a bill to repay more than $5 billion lost by savers in Britain and the Netherlands, forcing the issue to a referendum and stirring fresh turmoil in the crisis-hit country. President Olafur Grimsson's rejection of the unpopular bill put aid from international lenders and his country's aspirations to join the European Union in serious jeopardy, analysts said. Canadian Press: Iceland's president refuses to sign legislation to compensate British and Dutch. Iceland Weather Report: The government issues a statement. RNW: The Netherlands' government has reacted angrily to a decision by Iceland's president not to sign a bill enabling repayment of lost deposits to Dutch and British savings account holders.

Permalink Afghanistan: 300 to 500 Killed and Wounded a Month

The dire forecast was made by retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey, an adjunct professor of international affairs at the U.S. Military Academy: “What I want to do is signal that this thing is going to be $5 billion to $10 billion a month and 300 to 500 killed and wounded a month by next summer. That’s what we probably should expect. And that’s light casualties.” AWIP: What to watch for in 2010 from the country that spends more on war than the next 25 combined.

Permalink Guantánamo: The Definitive Prisoner List (Updated for 2010)

Back in March, I published a four-part list identifying all 779 prisoners held at Guantánamo since the prison opened on January 11, 2002, as “the culmination of a three-year project to record the stories of all the prisoners held at the US prison in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.” Now updated (as my ongoing project nears its four-year mark), the four parts of the list are available here: Part One, Part Two, Part Three and Part Four.

Permalink CIA bomber was al-Qaeda double agent, US media say

He is said to have been a doctor from Jordan who was arrested by Jordanian intelligence a year ago. He was then reportedly recruited by the Jordanians and CIA - who thought they had successfully turned him - and given a mission to find "al-Qaeda leaders" so that CIA/Blackwater could kill them. CNN: Jordanian double-agent killed 7 CIA officers in suicide blast. Al Jazeera: Zeid, a Jordanian intelligence officer killed in the attack, was honored in Amman -And rightly so. He should be. Killing the CIA agents was a great service to mankind. AntiWar: ‘Double Agent’ Imperils Jordanian Ties With CIA -CIA Said to Be 'Soul Searching' After Trusted Asset Kills Seven Agents. # 1: Jordan never had, nor will ever have "ties with" the CIA. Jordan is a country and the CIA is a criminal organization, state-run, but criminal nevertheless. The CIA "doing business" in Jordan is a shady, underhand activity. This should not be elevated to the level of having "ties with". # 2: The CIA cannot be "soul searching" nor can it ever be so. -The CIA has no soul. None whatever.

Permalink Germany SAYS it knows nothing of alleged CIA murder plot

The U.S. magazine Vanity Fair had reported that the CIA had in 2004 sent a team from the private security firm Blackwater, now Xe, to Hamburg to kill Mamoun Darkazanli, who was investigated for years by German authorities on suspicion of links to "al Qaeda".

Permalink Globally averaged temperatures have gone down .158°F/.088°C since An Inconvenient Truth was released

For the record, through December, 2009, globally averaged temperatures have gone down .158°F (.088°C) since An Inconvenient Truth was released at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2006. This marks the 40th out of the 47 months since An Inconvenient Truth was released that globally averaged temperatures have been less than they were when AIT was released. Truly an inconvenient truth.

She also said that Washington was working closely with its allies on deciding the best way forward to address the "security concerns" [US control]. Clinton said the Yemeni government had to take measures to restore "stability" [subservience to the US] or risk losing Western support.

Permalink 9/11 Commission Chairman: Plane Bomber “Did Us A Favor”

9/11 Commission whitewash chief Thomas Kean told CNN yesterday that the Christmas Day plane bomber “did us a favor,” by allowing Obama to expand the so-called war on terror into Yemen, a startling reminder that the highly suspicious Flight 253 attack served to fulfil pre-determined U.S. geopolitical objectives. One is reminded of the Israeli prime minister Netanyahu, who immediately after the 9/11 attacks said they were a very good thing for Israel: "It is very good!" There followed an embarrassed pause. He added: "Well, its not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy for Israel." The same mentality is at work here, and both Kean and Netanyahu are part of the same NWO agenda. Needless to say, in both instances we're talking about false flag operations...

Permalink Facebook Group Openly Calls For The Murder Of President Obama – Why Is No One Looking At This?

The headline says it all: there is a Facebook group in existence that is calling directly for the killing of President Obama. Not only does it exist, but it has a growing membership, and an active wall with users posting a variety of statements that are both racist and treasonous: “We are going to kill Obama. Ten of us will surround the capital, armed with sniper rifles. Mr. Hope And Change just made his last speech.

Permalink New airport scanners break child porn laws

The rapid introduction of full body scanners at British airports threatens to breach child protection laws which ban the creation of indecent images of children. Privacy campaigners rightly claim the images created by the machines are so graphic they amount to "virtual strip-searching" and have called for safeguards to protect the privacy of passengers involved. Arutz Sheva: ‘Passenger Behavior’ Key to Catching Airline Terrorists: "You have to actually look for the things that are dangerous, and not just scan everybody," he advises. “This calls for a total change in approach to the transportation security issue." Sela said that direct eye contact by security officials can help them spot abnormal behavior. Using such procedures probably would have stopped last month’s bomb maker if he had tried to board the plane in Israel - although no system is failsafe, Sela added.

Permalink Israel okays four new Jewish residences in East Jerusalem funded by an American millionaire

The Jerusalem planning and building committing on Monday approved construction of four new residential buildings in the eastern part of the city, despite international calls for a cessation of activity in the heavily Palestinian area. The construction project was initiated and constructed by American Jewish millionaire Irving Moskowitz, who also owns the Shepherd Hotel in East Jerusalem.

Permalink News From The Loony Bin: Brown irked by plan for antiwar demo

In a Monday statement issued in response to calls by the Islam4UK group for a protest march in the country, Brown expressed strong dismay at the plan and said he was “personally appalled” by the group's bid to protest against the government's war policies in Afghanistan. “It's to highlight the real cost of the war in Afghanistan,” the 42-year-old lawyer of Pakistani descent noted. “It is worth reminding those who are still not blinded by the media propaganda that Afghanistan is not a British town near Wootton Bassett but rather Muslim land which no one has the right to occupy, with a Muslim population who do not deserve their innocent men, women and children to be killed for political mileage and for the greedy interests of the oppressive US and UK regimes,” he added.

Permalink Kepler Mission Locates 5 New Planets

NASA’s Kepler Mission has discovered five new extrasolar planets, and program leaders are optimistic about finding Earth-like planets in the misson’s future. Earlier today Kepler team leader William Borucki announced the discovery of the five new planets at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Washington, D.C. The planets, referred to as “roasters” for their extreme surface temperatures and proximity to stars, are larger than Neptune and orbit their stars in less than four days.

Slides from the press conference presentation are available at the NASA Web site, and offer illustrations and diagrams depicting planet size, temperature, density and mass, and much more. The Kepler telescope “detects planets by spotting light-dipping eclipses, or ‘transits’, of stars by their companion planets.” The spacecraft, part of the $600 million Kepler mission, will search the stars in the Milky Way galaxy for signs of Earth-like planets.
