Washington and its German puppet state paid many people to protest in Kiev in order to serve as cover for the US coup that replaced an elected democratic government with Washington’s corrupt stooges. According to Ukrainian presidential candidate Oleg Zarjow, the payments continue, only now the money is paid to Maidan thugs who beat up politicians disapproved by the Washington-supported neo-nazis. Maidan bullies who browbeat and clobber different-minded citizens in Ukraine are paid on average 15,000 hryven (about 1,000 Euro) a month for their “work”, presidential candidate Oleg Zarjow said on Russian TV on Saturday. “Radicals who beat and hurt me in Kiev and the offenders who attacked me in Odessa and Nikolajev are one and the same power. In all regions in eastern Ukraine protesters are being silenced by these right-wing goon squads. They are an armed wing of those in power and are used to fight the political opposition,” the candidate said. For Ukraine, where factories are closed down 1,000 Euro are quite good money. Maidan leaders are “earning” up to 3,000 Euros. Zarjov also said that the Verkhovna Rada is trying now to erase him from the list of presidential candidates. As first measure the parliament wants to strip him of the representative’s immunity, Zarjov said. 23 candidates will be competing for the presidential election on May 25th this year.

Russia has criticized European Union’s actions regarding the crisis in Ukraine saying that the body is walking on Washington's leash. Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the EU is being manipulated by the US because it has failed to understand Ukrainian politics after it issued a new round of sanctions against Russian officials. “Instead of forcing the Kiev clique to (engage in) negotiations, our partners are walking on Washington's leash,” the ministry said, positing, “Are you not ashamed?”

Seumas Milne: It's not Russia that's pushed Ukraine to the brink of war ■ The attempt to lever Kiev into the western camp by ousting an elected leader made conflict certain. It could be a threat to us all. When the Ukrainian president was replaced by a US-selected administration, in an entirely unconstitutional takeover, politicians such as William Hague brazenly misled parliament about the legality of what had taken place: the imposition of a pro-western government on Russia's most neuralgic and politically divided neighbour. Putin bit back, taking a leaf out of the US street-protest playbook – even though, as in Kiev, the protests that spread from Crimea to eastern Ukraine evidently have mass support. So Putin is now routinely compared to Hitler, while the role of the fascistic right on the streets and in the new Ukrainian regime has been airbrushed out of most reporting as Putinist propaganda.

The second time, when it pushed to blockade the city of Slovyansk, the Russian Federation announced a snap maneuvers of its border troops and threatened to intervene. Kiev called back its forces and the federalists occupied state buildings in more cities in east. Some 23 cities and towns in the Donbass region, which delivers a third of Ukraine's GDP, are now in their hands. More will be by tomorrow. The coup government in Kiev has, for now, given up.

Sinn Féin leader spends night in custody being interviewed by PSNI detectives over killing of widowed mother of 10 in 1972. ● The Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has been arrested in connection with the 1972 abduction, murder and disappearance of Jean McConville. Detectives from the PSNI’s serious crime branch are questioning Mr Adams at Antrim station about the murder of the widowed mother of 10 children. Mr Adams remained in police custody overnight following his arrest yesterday. The PSNI press office issued a statement without naming Mr Adams saying a 65-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the murder. A spokesman said he presented himself for questioning at Antrim station. Around the same time a statement from Mr Adams confirmed the meeting. “Last month I said that I was available to meet the PSNI about the Jean McConville case. While I have concerns about the timing, I am voluntarily meeting with the PSNI,” said Mr Adams.

Briege Voyle, whose mother Joan Connolly was shot dead by British soldiers during the killing spree, said she was "devastated" and "could not believe" that Theresa Villiers had claimed an inquiry was "not in the public interest".

The Guardian has obtained CCTV footage showing a police officer firing a Taser at a naked man in a cell. ● A chief constable tried to prevent the release of footage showing the Wiltshire constable Lee Birch shooting the Taser at 23-year-old Daniel Dove – despite a court agreeing it could be published. The Guardian obtained the footage from another source. ● It shows Dove, who had been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, being subjected to a strip search in a custody suite. He pulls off his boxer shorts and flicks them at Birch. The officer takes a Taser he had held behind his back and fires it at Dove's chest. The young man falls on to a mat that had been placed on the floor of the cell. ● A crown court jury on Tuesday cleared Birch of assault causing actual bodily harm and misconduct in a public office. Charges were subsequently dropped against Dove. However the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating five officers including Birch in connection with the incident and is also looking at why the force involved, Wiltshire, did not inform it about what happened. The IPCC will now examine if Birch, 31, and four colleagues breached professional standards. [...] It is not the first time the treatment of people taken into custody in Melksham has embarrassed Wiltshire police. In 2010 Sgt Mark Andrews was caught on CCTV dragging 57-year-old Pamela Somerville into a cell. Andrews was initially jailed for causing actual bodily harm but later won an appeal against conviction.

Six CF-18s and hundreds of Canadian Forces personnel left for Romania to help NATO forces in Eastern Europe amid uncertainty over the scope of the mission. It is the biggest deployment of military aircraft to Romania from another NATO member since the Ukraine crisis broke out. "There is a lot of uncertainty about what we're going to be doing over there," Lieutenant-General Yvan Blondin said at a press conference with Defense Minister Rob Nicholson in Bagotville, where the CF-18 Hornets are based. Blondin mentioned that the troops were going to perhaps participate in routine training exercises – but he is still not sure what the mission will involve.
