Permalink American police: To serve and protect (the 1%)

The ongoing anti-greed Occupy protests have seen too many instances of police using brutal tactics against demonstrators. Some says the US is militarizing its police force and squashing the very freedoms it is so keen to preach internationally.

In recent months, US police officers have made an enemy out of those citizens using their freedom of speech to protest against corporate greed and corrupt politics, reports RT’s Marina Portnaya. Today’s breed of law enforcers are dressed in riot gear and armed with heavy weaponry, body armor, flash bangs, tear gas, and potentially lethal projectiles. As tens of thousands of Americans assemble, cops have been accused of creating confrontation, not defusing it. Some veterans of the force can’t help but resent the situation. “It’s a travesty of democracy, the way the police are totally suppressing the people’s right to assemble and to protest. I joined the force to protect people’s rights to assemble and protest, not to squash them,” said Ray Lewis, retired Philadelphia police captain. And America’s military veterans have a similar opinion.

Permalink Hundreds of people arrested at "unsanctioned" rally in Moscow (VIDEO)

Around 600 opposition supporters have been detained at an "unsanctioned" rally in the heart of Moscow. Supporters of both the government and the opposition have flocked to Triumfalnaya Square, which has been cordoned off by police. - Among those detained and taken to nearby police buses are well-known bloggers and opposition leaders. Several journalists have also been arrested, and according to their social network posts, some have been beaten as well. Those at the scene are providing live updates of the rally via Twitter; with many saying there are at least 5,000 opposition supporters, 2,000 pro-government youth group members and around one thousand police officers. RT’s Peter Oliver is at the scene and says the riot police presence is definitely noticeable. Water cannons are also on site in case the rally turns violent. There have been reports of minor clashes and a few firebombs thrown into the crowd, but no major violence has broken out so far. The square itself has been closed off by police officers, and nearby streets are also full of security vehicles and personnel.

Permalink Russia says no to EU oil ban on Iran

Russia has announced that it has no plan to join sanctions imposed on Iranian oil exports by the European Union (EU) as the decision is politically motivated. - "I heard yesterday [Tuesday] that Russia was asked to join this embargo...Today, Russia is not taking even a single ton of Iranian oil and we don't have any plans to increase our import share of Iranian oil,” Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko said on Wednesday. Speaking on the sidelines of the World Petroleum Congress in Doha, Qatar, the Russian minister further stated that Moscow did not need to join the embargo “because we are not consuming Iranian oil at all.” Asked if Russia would back an EU-led embargo on Iranian crude to pressure the country over its nuclear ambitions, he said, "Do you realize the consequences of the decision once it is made? It's quite obvious that this time the decision is based on political matters. In this situation we [must] try to be as neutral as possible." Shmatko said that Moscow would continue to discuss Iran's alleged plans to build a nuclear weapon in "other forums" such as the UN Security Council.

Permalink Iran recovers secret CIA spy drone

Officials in the US are now scrambling over the intel that could fall into the hands of Iran and its allies after a surveillance aircraft originally reported downed over Iran is being revealed as a top-secret stealth drone. - Though American officials quickly denied that an aircraft crashed at all last week, reports from overseas revealed that an US plane had indeed been flying over Iran. Now officials within the US government are admitting that the craft was actually an unmanned, robotic spy drone equipped with some of the country’s finest technologies and kept under wraps for years. Furthermore, the craft was flying in an intelligence-gathering operation for the CIA, and if its cutting edge technology is examined by enemy forces, some of America’s top secrets could be exposed. "It's bad — they'll have everything,” an official speaking under condition of anonymity tells the Los Angeles Times.

Permalink NPR’s domestic drone commercial

Excitement over America’s use of drones in multiple Muslim countries is, predictably, causing those weapons to be imported onto U.S. soil. Federal law enforcement agencies and local police forces are buying more and more of them and putting them to increasingly diverse domestic uses, as well as patrolling the border, and even private corporations are now considering how to use them.

One U.S. drone manufacturer advertises its product as ideal for “urban monitoring.” Orlando’s police department originally requested two drones to use for security at next year’s GOP convention, only to change their minds for budgetary reasons.

One new type of drone already in use by the U.S. military in Afghanistan — the Gorgon Stare, named after the “mythical Greek creature whose unblinking eyes turned to stone those who beheld them” — is “able to scan an area the size of a small town” and “the most sophisticated robotics use artificial intelligence that [can] seek out and record certain kinds of suspicious activity”; boasted one U.S. General: “Gorgon Stare will be looking at a whole city, so there will be no way for the adversary to know what we’re looking at, and we can see everything.”

Permalink Bank shysters target 15 euro-zone countries

Standard & Poor's is threatening to downgrade the credit rating of 15 eurozone countries, saying the worsening debt crisis is affecting the bloc's strongest economies. - The decision Monday to put 15 eurozone countries, including AAA-rating nations such as Germany and Luxembourg, on watch for a possible downgrade piles pressure on eurozone leaders to find a solution to the currency union's debt troubles at a summit later this week. S&P said its decision was "prompted by our belief that systemic stresses in the eurozone have risen in recent weeks to the extent that they now put downward pressure on the credit standing of the eurozone as a whole." The only two euro nations not put on credit watch were Cyprus, which was already under review, and Greece, which already holds the world's worst rating.

Permalink The Pentagon Is Offering Free Military Hardware To Every Police Department In The US

The U.S. military has some of the most advanced killing equipment in the world that allows it to invade almost wherever it likes at will. - We produce so much military equipment that inventories of military robots, M-16 assault rifles, helicopters, armored vehicles, and grenade launchers eventually start to pile up and it turns out a lot of these weapons are going straight to American police forces to be used against US citizens. Benjamin Carlson at The Daily reports on a little known endeavor called the "1033 Program" that gave more than $500 million of military gear to U.S. police forces in 2011 alone. 1033 was passed by Congress in 1997 to help law-enforcement fight terrorism and drugs, but despite a 40-year low in violent crime, police are snapping up hardware like never before. While this year's staggering take topped the charts, next year's orders are up 400 percent over the same period. This upswing coincides with an increasingly military-like style of law enforcement most recently seen in the Occupy Wall Street crackdowns.

Permalink 'Silent coup' rumors swirl as Zardari leaves Pakistan

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has traveled to Dubai after falling ill, fuelling rumors Wednesday of his possible resignation. - Close associates of the president told the Associated Press he is currently "unwell," but did not provide specifics. His condition did not appear to be life-threatening, they said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. Zardari's office said he was undergoing routine medical tests and a check-up "as planned." However, Reuters cited a source in Dubai as saying that Zardari had suffered a minor heart attack. "Two days ago, he had chest pain," the source added. Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani's office released a statement saying Zardari "went to Dubai following symptoms related to his pre-existing heart condition." The president's spokesman denied a media report that the trip meant Zardari, who has been under pressure from a memo scandal that forced the Pakistani ambassador to the U.S. to resign, would cite failing health as a pretext to step down.

Permalink Gilad Atzmon: Desperate Dershowitz

The Wandering Who?’ is now a best seller, it is endorsed by a huge list of academics and humanists and its message spreads like fire in a field. Needles to mention that I am thankful to Dershowitz and other Hasbara agents for their free publicity. (To read a complete exposé of Dershowitzes Lies and Glitches)

Dershowitz is desperate. In a recent TV appearance, in a mere seven minutes the notorious Zionist mouthpiece, manages to exhibit just about every single ugly Hasbara symptom.

And what is Dershowitz so desperate about? Dershowitz, is desperate to stop ‘The Wandering Who?’. Why? Because ‘The Wandering Who?’ is probably the only contemporary text that offers a complete and comprehensive reading into, not only Jewish Identity politics in general but also into Dershowitz’ own particular psychosis and duplicitous behaviour. Being a prime Hasbara agent and well used to ‘the ways of deception’, Dershowitz fails to produce a single truthful statement in the entire program. He lies all the way through. But lies and deception are not going to help Dershowitz. Dershowitz, a largely despised supremacist Zionist, wants to ‘shame’ two of America’s most distinguished professors. However, in pleading with academics and students to carry out the ‘shaming’, Dershowitz actually follows one of the most disturbing of all Talmudic rituals - the Cherem. Why does Dershowitz believe he has the moral authority to ‘shame’ two of the world’s leading humanists? Is it because he believes himself to be intellectually or morally superior, or is it that he is just, quite simply ‘chosen’? It’s about time that Dershowitz accepts that American universities are not Yeshivas and he should rein in his mediaeval rabbinical approach to political and intellectual discourse.

Being an ex-Jew, I ask no-one to ‘shame’ Dershowitz in return. This sad, vindictive man brings more than enough shame on himself – and on anyone within the Jewish community who identify so disastrously with his repellent behaviour.

Permalink UK MP faces quit calls for telling truth

A British lawmaker has come under intense pressure to step down after suggesting that the 'UK ambassador to Israel is more Zionist than British'. - “I do not normally fall for conspiracy theories, but the ambassador has proclaimed himself to be a Zionist”, said Newport West MP Paul Flynn. “In my opinion, the evidence against Ambassador Matthew Gould appears to be pretty conclusive”, added Flynn. The lawmaker said the ambassador to Israel should be “someone with roots in the UK (who) can't be accused of having Jewish loyalty.” MP Flynn has been accused of making anti-Semitic remarks after questioning whether British ambassador to Israel Matthew Gould should be Jewish. This is while that MP Paul Flynn did not criticise Ambassador Gould for being an observant Jew or for being Jewish by birth. Rather, Flynn was obviously questioning Gould's close affiliation with Zionism; i.e. for his political ideology. Flynn rejected the allegations of anti-Semitism made against him as “ludicrous.” He wrote on his blog that he was “a lifelong friend of Israel, but he may well realise by now that friendship with Israel means very little: Israel demands full submission.

Permalink Australian given 500 lashes for blasphemy in Saudi Arabia

An Australian man has been sentenced to 500 lashes and a year in prison in Saudi Arabia for breaking the country's strict blasphemy laws during a Haj pilgrimage last month. - Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs said it was very concerned about the well-being of the man, named in media reports as Mansor Almaribe, a 45-year-old father of five. "The Australian Government has a universal policy of condemning the use of corporal punishment amounting to torture, or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment," a spokeswoman for Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said in a statement. (The sentence comes a day after a Chinese court sentenced an Australian businessman to 13 years in prison for fraud in a case that raised fresh foreign concerns about China's murky legal system.)

Permalink Old Pearl Harbor, New Pearl Harbor, Pearl Harbor's to Come

"When you realize just about everything you have been told all your life is a lie, you are on the right track."

70 years since Pearl Harbor and many things stay the same. Wars are conspiracies. All wars are of lies. Wars are for profit. Few benefit, many die. The so called 'greatest generation' was a great hijacking. Bodies for bankers. Planned destruction with the leaders in place to make sure it goes down. The rich get richer, the poor get dead. Repeated on and on. Pearl Harbor was 'let it happen on purpose.' 9/11, the new Pearl Harbor was 'make it happen on purpose.' The next Pearl Harbor to lead us into more wars will also be a set-up, a death trap where 'the end always justifies the means' as the psychopaths say.
