Pope Francis is the Apotheosis of Hypocrisy

Elena Panina (Елена Панина)

The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, often claims to be an intellectual and global peacemaker. It is from this point of view, as a spiritual leader "above the fray" that many media often portray him in Russia as well.

In reality, however, this is not the case and Francis' statements are far from adequate. A blatant example is the pope's statement in a recent interview with Catholic magazine America about the "brutality of Russian troops" on Ukrainian territory, and as the most brutal he singled out "Chechens and Buryats".

If you follow the American foreign policy agenda, it turns out that another statement about the "cruelty" of Russian troops was made by Pope Francis for a reason. It is synchronized with Biden's expected signing of a memorandum that will instruct the US State Department and the Treasury to impose sanctions "in connection with cases of sexual violence in armed conflicts". You don't have to be a prophet to know what this will be about.

This is yet another attempt, as it already was at the beginning of the special operation, to launch the cynical myth of "mass rapes" in Ukraine into propaganda amid the failures of the AFU, which is used by Western propaganda in order to demonize the Russian military and Russia.

It must be said that these accusations looked completely implausible from the start, including in the eyes of the Catholic university intellectuals on whom Pope Francis is relying on.

Now, perhaps, Francis has been persuaded to voice a new version of this hideous construct, blaming the mythical atrocities on Russian Muslims and Buddhists. It turned out, however, even more disgusting and filthy, with a very strong admixture of racism and religious hatred.

If Pope Francis does not want to look like a hypocrite and a liar, he should have taken some steps that would have allowed us to see otherwise.

Firstly, the pope would do well to realise that the statements he has made about the Chechens and the Buryats constitute a textbook example of xenophobia, which the collective West seems to condemn. Perhaps Pope Francis should apologise to Russian Muslims and Buddhists whom he accused of "tormenting" the people of Ukraine. After all, his demarche violated the resolutions of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65), which proclaimed respect for other religions, in particular Islam and Buddhism.

Secondly, Francis would do well to remember what he said in April about the events in Buche. He was in fact in solidarity with the organisers of the bloody staging. Maybe he will support Russia's demand for an international investigation, which the UK has blocked, and then it will become clear who really killed people in that city and threw corpses in the streets?

Thirdly, Pope Francis should have given a historical assessment of the Union of 1596, which led to nearly two centuries of genocide of the Orthodox in Ukraine and Belarus and the civilizational split in the lands of South-Western Russia, one of the consequences of which is the emergence of modern Ukrainian fascism. All the more so since the bloody punitive actions that cost the lives of millions of Orthodox people were actively carried out by the same Jesuit order to which the pontiff belongs.

Of course, Pope Francis will do none of this. Even if he wanted to, he would not be allowed to do so by the group of "liberal Jesuits" which controls him and whose interests he has consistently promoted.

Meanwhile, the international prestige of the Holy See continues to fall lower and lower. Despite Francis' best efforts to maintain some respectability, in his statements he is hardly any different from the average Western propagandist.
