Permalink NATO’s Rutte tries to make everything Russian 'bogeyman' for EU, Slovak official says

Tibor Gaspar pointed out that the Russian-Slovak relations focus on, first and foremost, "economic cooperation, development of ties in cultural and sports areas based on the principle of equals" | NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte tries to make everything Russian a bogeyman for the Europeans, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Slovakia Tibor Gaspar said in an interview with TASS. 💬 "This is a certain bogeyman for the Europeans," he said, commenting on Rutte’s words that the EU will have to "learn how to speak Russian" in 4-5 years, unless NATO member states refuse to increase their military spending.  "There was a time in history when we were under the USSR’s influence. Therefore this issue is being used today in a bid to create a negative attitude towards Russia," Gaspar said.  "We had talks with State Duma Speaker [Vyacheslav Volodin], which could be praised quite highly. He said that relations must be balanced and equal," the official said.

Permalink Gama Aviation: the Company That Helped Britain Spy for Israel

Royal Air Force surveillance flights over Gaza have relied on technical support from Gama, Declassified has found. | Gama provides “engineering services including design, maintenance and repair” for the RAF’s six-strong fleet of Shadow R1 surveillance planes.  Without Gama’s technical support and deep knowledge of the planes, the RAF would have struggled to maintain almost daily surveillance flights over the besieged Palestinian territory since December 2023.  These missions were ostensibly to help locate hostages, but have led to concerns that Britain is complicit in Israel’s relentless attacks on Palestinian civilians.  Once deployed to Akrotiri in pairs, these small, twin propeller planes have spent around four hours a day flying above Gaza, hoovering up intelligence with their state-of-the-art onboard surveillance systems.  The footage and other intercepts can technically be shared live via a satellite link with partners on the ground, raising concerns that Israeli forces may have had real time access to UK surveillance of the battlefield.

Permalink Undersea Cable Damage in Baltic Sea the Result of Accidents, Not Russian Sabotage

NATO has used the incidents to step up its military presence in the Baltic | Recent damage to undersea cables in the Baltic Sea was likely caused by maritime accidents, not by Russian sabotage as many Western officials have alleged, The Washington Post reported on Sunday.  NATO has used recent incidents to justify an increase in its military presence in the Baltic Sea and launched a new mission called “Baltic Sentry” just last week, a move that ratchets up tensions with Russia. The Guardian reported on Sunday that a NATO naval flotilla has assembled off the coast of Estonia to “protect” undersea infrastructure.
