Permalink To Avoid Nuclear War, Putin Needs to be a Little Crazier

Mike Whitney | Let’s summarize:

  1. The long-range precision weapons (missiles) are provided by NATO countries
  2. The long-range precision weapons are manned by experts or contractors from the country of origin
  3. The long-range precision weapons must be linked to space reconnaissance data provide by the US/NATO
  4. The targets in Russia are also provided by space reconnaissance data provide by the US or NATO

The point that Putin is trying to make is that the long-range missiles are made by NATO, furnished by NATO, operated and launched by NATO contractors, whose targets are selected by NATO experts using space reconnaissance data provided by NATO. In every respect, the prospective firing of long-range precision weapons at targets in Russia, is a NATO-US operation. Thus, there should be no confusion about who is responsible. NATO is responsible which means that NATO is effectively declaring war on Russia [emphasis by this editor]. Putin’s lengthy comments merely underscore this critical point.

On Friday, day 239 of Israel’s onslaught on the tiny coastal territory known as the Gaza Strip, a place that is home to 2.4 million Palestinians, Israeli forces continued their assault on the civilian population of Gaza by land, sea and air, killing and maiming a number of Palestinians. [...] A correspondent with the Palestinian Wafa news agency said that the occupation aircraft bombed a house near Al-Ghafri Junction on Al-Jalaa Street in Gaza City, which led to the death of a number of citizens, including journalist Ola Al-Dahdouh, and the wounding of other citizens.  The occupation aircraft also carried out a raid on the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City, with an unknown number of casualties.  Earlier on Friday, after Israeli forces withdrew from Jabalia camp, ambulance and civil defense teams recovered the bodies of more than 70 Palestinians, including 20 children. Dozens of people are missing, who were known to be in the camp, and relatives and rescue crews are frantically searching for survivors among the rubble of homes, shelters, schools, and hospitals, none of which were spared from the Israeli military’s assault. Even the centers of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA) were not spared the atrocities and crimes committed by the Israeli occupation. (Image: © Middle East Eye)

Permalink Director of Clooney Foundation's "Docket Project" to Seek Arrest of Pro-Russian JOURNALISTS

Journalists may be detained by Europol | Anna Neistat, the legal director of the Clooney Foundation's Docket Project, says that the criminal code of some European countries has an article on "spreading war propaganda." Read that again: Journalists will be detained by Europol.  In addition: the names of journalists to be prosecuted are not disclosed, so a person may travel to said European country, unaware that there is an arrest warrant out for them. Permalink Medvedev warns West of 'final stage' in war, repeats nuclear option

Senior security official Dmitry Medvedev says Russia is not bluffing when it speaks of the possibility of using tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine. | His warning came after the US and Germany became the latest allies to let Ukraine's military use Western-supplied weapons to strike targets inside Russia. 💬 "Russia regards all long-range weapons used by Ukraine as already being directly controlled by servicemen from NATO countries. This is no military assistance, this is participation in a war against us," Medvedev said.  "And such actions could well become a casus belli (an act that provokes a war)." He said giving Kiev permission by the Western countries to use provided long-range weapons and ammunition to strike targets inside Russia will escalate the Ukraine war to its final stage.

Permalink First French troops on the way to Ukraine – MP

Kiev has already prepared the necessary paperwork for foreign instructors on its military sites | The first group of French military instructors are on their way to Ukraine, senior Ukrainian MP Aleksey Goncharenko said on Friday. This comes just days after Ukraine’s top commander, Aleksandr Syrsky, announced that he had authorized the presence of French personnel in the country. [...] The idea of deploying NATO boots on the ground remains a contentious issue within the US-led alliance, whose members maintain that they are not parties to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Moscow has said that it views Ukraine’s Western backers as direct participants, stressing that Western-supplied weapons are being used to strike targets on Russian soil.  In February, French President Emmanuel Macron said he could not rule out the possibility of NATO member states sending troops to Ukraine in the future, although French officials soon clarified that he meant non-combat personnel. Macron later argued that NATO should adopt a policy of “strategic ambiguity” towards Russia. The French leader has been working behind the scenes to forge a coalition of countries willing to dispatch trainers to Kiev, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
