Permalink How the War in Ukraine Started

Eric Zuesse | The U.S. regime under Barack Obama had been planning, ever since June 2011, a takeover of Ukraine, in order to become enabled ultimately to place its nuclear missiles within less than five minutes flying-time to a first-strike blitz destruction of the Kremlin | Clear and convincing evidence will be presented here that, under U.S. President Barack Obama, the U.S. Government had a detailed plan, which was already active in June 2013, to take over Russia’s main naval base, which is in Sevastopol in Crimea, and to turn it into a U.S. naval base. There can now be no question that the war in Ukraine started, and resulted from, the U.S. Government’s plan to take over all of Ukraine, and especially to take over that Russian naval base, in Crimea, which then was in Ukraine.  The war in Ukraine didn’t start at the time when a lot of people think it did, with the overthrow of Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych. It was already underway considerably before that time, because it started in Washington, as the following masterful 11-minute documentary makes clear — it started as a subterranean war by Washington to take over Ukraine before it became an overt war (a “civil war”) within Ukraine.

Permalink Polish General - Ukraine Near COMPLETE DEFEAT

Polish General Skshipchak said that Ukraine has no forces for an offensive. | The Ukrainian army does not have the means for offensive actions, the situation is close to complete defeat, the former commander of the Polish ground forces, General Waldemar Skshipchak, said in an interview with the portal Wirtualna Polska.  Meanwhile, German Leopard-2 tanks will be in Ukraine at the end of March according to the Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius.  Also adding to the potential tank capabilities, Ukrainian crews that arrived in the UK last week will be using Challenger 2 tanks to defend Ukraine next month, UK prime minister Sunak says.  In related news, the issue of long-range weapons and fighters for Ukraine has been resolved, said the Head of Ukraine's Presidents office, Yermak. Poland says it is ready to supply Ukraine with fighter jets, but will not be first among NATO countries.

Permalink Western sanctions will mean that more Syrians die after the earthquakes

Eva Bartlett | The economic stranglehold and selective approach to aid will lead to more death and displacement | On February 6, southern Türkiye and northern Syria were hit by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake, followed by dozens of aftershocks and then another earthquake. While the neighboring countries of Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq and others were affected, the worst of the damage was in Türkiye and Syria.  Following the devastating earthquakes that rocked Türkiye, Syria and their neighboring countries on February 6, leaving more than 20,000 dead, Damascus is struggling to deal with this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as it remains under brutal Western sanctions that have brought the country to its knees.  The West’s war on Syria that began in early 2011 failed to topple its elected president, but the subsequent years of increasingly cruel sanctions – all in the name of ‘helping the Syrian people’ – have succeeded in rendering life miserable and near impossible, with most unable to afford to properly feed their families, much less heat their homes. Now, in a time of crisis, the Syrian people cannot even receive donations or emergency support from abroad. One supporter set up a GoFundMe campaign, only to have it taken down due to the sanctions. Type the word “Ukraine” into the search field on PayPal or GoFundMe and you’ll see countless appeals for sending money to Ukraine. But for Syrians, Western platforms like these are off-limits, and have been for years. [Excerpts from Eva's latest oped here (Telegram)]

Permalink "Quos Deus vult perdere, prius dementat" (Look it up...)

Maxim Sokolov | Poland is ready to save the world from Russia | Polish Prime Minister Pan Morawiecki gave an interview to the Milan newspaper Corriere della Sera, in which — to make it clearer to local readers — he reasoned completely in the manner of the local hero Cato the Elder. Who ended each of his speeches in the Senate — regardless of what issue it was devoted to — with the obligatory Ceterum censeo Carthaginem delendam esse — "Besides, I think that Carthage should be destroyed." And physiognomically, the Prime Minister, who in all his images looks like he has eaten something bad, has a rare portrait resemblance to Cato the Elder, who also probably suffered from malnutrition. But, unlike Cato, fixated on Carthage, Moravetsky thinks that Russia should be destroyed. He repeats this thought to the place and out of place — just like V. A. Zelensky completes all his speeches and in front of any audience with a request: "Give me money." [Moravetsky] explains: "What is happening in Ukraine is an existential threat both for Poland and for the whole of Europe. To completely destroy Russia is a necessary state need of both Poland and Europe." And no diplomacy can be appropriate here, because "they do not negotiate with terrorists." Only complete defeat and subsequent deputinization [sic], so that Russian imperialism would be destroyed by the roots and never threaten Poland and Europe again. [Translation: yandex.ru]

Permalink Kremlin reacts to Nord Stream sabotage claim

A fresh article alleging a US role in the explosions highlights the need for an international probe, Dmitry Peskov says | Russia is concerned by attempts to silently wind down the investigation into last year’s explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has said. A report by renowned American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, blaming the US for the sabotage, should spur attempts to find out what happened, he stressed. Articles such as the one by Hersh show 💬 “the need for an open international investigation into this unprecedented attack on this critical infrastructure,” Peskov told the media on Thursday. “It’s impossible to leave this without finding the perpetrators and punishing them.” Russia has already spoken about data which “points to the involvement of the Anglo-Saxons [the US and the UK]” in this incident, and there is “certain overlapping” between this information and the report by the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, the Kremlin spokesman said.

РИА Новости | Flightradar Spotted P-8A Poseidon Near Nord Stream Explosion Site | Igor Korotchenko: "Taking into account that the route of American P-8A Poseidon was calculated with refuelling over Poland and all these moments had to be synchronised, one can say that its arrival at the scheduled time, immediately after the attack, indicates a pre-planned flight and, therefore, is another confirmation of the version put forward by the American journalist Hersh about the causes and circumstances of the attack. This once again proves the involvement of official US government agencies in this sabotage."  "Vladimir Putin called the incident an apparent terrorist attack." (RIA Novosti)[DeepL.com]

Varvara Kuzmina | US Spy Plane Spotted After North Stream Explosion | "Russia has threatened consequences over the undermining of Nord Stream. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that Moscow would not leave the story of the undermining of Russian gas pipelines without consequences. He also stressed that Russia intended to seek access to the investigation.  Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also commented on the situation. He stressed the need for an open international investigation into the incident." (lenta.ru)[DeepL.com]

CaitlinJohnstone | Russia would stand nothing to gain by bombing its own pipeline whose gas flow it could control on its own end, while US officials are openly acknowledging that the US benefits from it directly. It's just so silly how imperial spinmeisters are falling all over themselves to dismiss a claim they all privately know is true because it's so glaringly obvious.
Ben Norton | In this video I discuss Seymour Hersh's bombshell report that the US blew up Nord Stream. I also look at other evidence he didn't mention. Norway & Poland opened their own Baltic pipeline hours after the sabotage. US is now the world's largest LNG exporter.

Permalink WHO Demands Increased Powers to Track Public for ‘Disease Control’

The World Health Organization (WHO) is demanding increased “surveillance” powers to track the public and monitor “the health of people, animals, and ecosystems.”–The unelected United Nations health agency argues that it needs new powers to track the public to handle “disease control” so governments can prepare in the event of another pandemic. | The WHO calls for new tracking powers in the latest zero draft of its international pandemic treaty. As Slay News has previously reported, the treaty will award the WHO with sweeping global powers if passed. Elsewhere in the treaty is WHO’s new plan to censor so-called “misinformation” and “disinformation” online. The treaty will give the unelected global organization new powers to “tackle” anything that it deems to be “false, misleading, misinformation, or disinformation.” The WHO will essentially get new legally binding censorship powers if the treaty passes.

Permalink How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline

Seymour Hersh | The New York Times called it a “mystery,” but the United States executed a covert sea operation that was kept secret—until now | Last June, the Navy divers, operating under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22, planted the remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines, according to a source with direct knowledge of the operational planning.  Two of the pipelines, which were known collectively as Nord Stream 1, had been providing Germany and much of Western Europe with cheap Russian natural gas for more than a decade. A second pair of pipelines, called Nord Stream 2, had been built but were not yet operational. Now, with Russian troops massing on the Ukrainian border and the bloodiest war in Europe since 1945 looming, President Joseph Biden saw the pipelines as a vehicle for Vladimir Putin to weaponize natural gas for his political and territorial ambitions.  Biden’s decision to sabotage the pipelines came after more than nine months of highly secret back and forth debate inside Washington’s national security community about how to best achieve that goal. For much of that time, the issue was not whether to do the mission, but how to get it done with no overt clue as to who was responsible. THE OPERATION: Norway was the perfect place to base the mission. In the past few years of East-West crisis, the U.S. military has vastly expanded its presence inside Norway, whose western border runs 1,400 miles along the north Atlantic Ocean and merges above the Arctic Circle with Russia. The Pentagon has created high paying jobs and contracts, amid some local controversy, by investing hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade and expand American Navy and Air Force facilities in Norway. The new works included, most importantly, an advanced synthetic aperture radar far up north that was capable of penetrating deep into Russia and came online just as the American intelligence community lost access to a series of long-range listening sites inside China.  [In] Washington, planners knew they had to go to Norway. “They hated the Russians, and the Norwegian navy was full of superb sailors and divers who had generations of experience in highly profitable deep-sea oil and gas exploration,” the source said. They also could be trusted to keep the mission secret.

Permalink The Only Possibility for Kiev to Prevent an Ultimate Catastrophe

Valentina Matvienko | The only possibility for Kiev to prevent an ultimate catastrophe is to start searching for a peace formula that takes into account objective reality and Russia's legitimate interests. | This is the only real prospect. Because Joe Biden's promise to maintain a military confrontation for as long as it takes, if you think about it, is a requiem for Ukraine. Because the Kiev regime has zero chance of defeating Russia on the battlefield, the American president's statement condemns Ukraine and its people to slaughter. This is exactly what is happening right now. The losses of the AFU are huge, the economy is collapsing, people are fleeing. The country is getting closer and closer to the line beyond which it risks the total and irrevocable loss of statehood. For what? For the interests of the United States and its allies? For the West's desire for world hegemony? (Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator; free version)

Permalink Zelensky burning down Ukraine for Western applause – exiled opposition leader

Viktor Medvedchuk | The country was plunged into a fire for the inflated ego of this man | President Vladimir Zelensky condemned Ukraine to destruction in the name of Western interests because he is too incompetent and ambitious to govern it properly, exiled opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk believes. Zelensky was elected in 2019 as a “peace candidate” who pledged to put an end to the warmongering policies of his predecessor, Pyotr Poroshenko, Medvedchuk, who was the leader of the banned Opposition Platform – For Life, wrote in an article published by RIA Novosti on Wednesday. But instead of becoming “a sentence” for Poroshenko, which was his campaign promise, Zelensky became a sentence for Ukraine, the politician said. The new leader had a mandate to rebalance Ukraine’s political system and make the country neutral and peaceful, Medvedchuk wrote. But this required a boring routine and difficult work. Permalink Norway Procures New Leopard Tanks From Germany Bringing Hot Arms Debate to a Close

In recent years, Norway has maintained a close military collaboration with Germany, including submarine cooperation. The bilateral engagements between Oslo and Berlin received a shot in the arm after the conflict in Ukraine began, as Norway replaced Russia as the EU's biggest supplier of gas. | Norway has decided to acquire 54 German Leopard 2A7 main battle tanks, bringing a bitter debate between the military and politicians over funding priorities to a close.  The planned 19.7Bln NOK ($1.91Bln) package also includes an option to buy a further 18 vehicles. The new tanks will replace Leopard 2A4 vehicles and are due to be phased in between 2026 and 2031. Although the contract with manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMV) has yet to be signed, Norway's Defense Materiel Agency said it is expected to be in the near future.  Justifying the procurement, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store enigmatically claimed that Oslo finds itself in "one of the most demanding security policy situations since the Second World War." He also stressed that the Leopard 2A7 acquisition will both lead to closer security ties with Germany and ensure that Oslo shares a common main battle tank with its Nordic neighbors and close allies. The choice of the Leopard follows Norway’s close military collaboration with Germany on a number of major defense and security related projects, including submarine cooperation.

Permalink Britain Is Much Worse Off Than It Understands

Simon Tilford | Things weren’t nearly this bad in the 1970s—but the country’s leaders haven't grasped that yet. | By any criteria, the United Kingdom faces a serious economic and social crisis, one that will deepen without big shifts in policy. Yet there is little sense of this crisis among the country’s elite, not least its politicians.  The power of narratives helps explain this disconnect. The gap between the U.K.’s reality as portrayed by the dominant narrative of its economy’s performance and real life as experienced by its average citizen has widened to the breaking point. The resulting political distortions are now making the underlying problems even worse.  Narratives and the emotional impulses that drive them play an underappreciated role in our understanding of the way economies work and whether they are perceived to be performing well or not. Sometimes, there is real grounding to those narratives; other times, they are largely fictional constructs. This does not necessarily mean that those who believe them and propagate them are dishonest, only that their personal experience may not be representative of the economy as a whole.

Permalink The Maidan sniper killings were pivotal for the 2014 Kiev coup – why is research into the massacre being censored in the West?

Evidence that external forces were involved has been suppressed for ‘political reasons’ | Political scientist Ivan Katchanovski – of the University of Ottawa – has revealed that a paper he produced outlining evidence that the February 2014 massacre of Ukrainian protesters by sniper fire, a defining moment of the Western-backed Maidan coup, was not published by an academic journal for “political reasons.” ‘The evidence is solid:’ In a lengthy Twitter thread posted on January 6, Katchanovski first laid out the circumstances behind the rejection of his article, and the bombshell evidence included in it. The paper was initially accepted with minor revisions after peer review, and the journal's editor offered a glowing appraisal of his work, writing: 💬 “There is no doubt that this paper is exceptional in many ways. It offers evidence against the mainstream narrative of the regime change in Ukraine in 2014… It seems to me that the evidence the study produces in favour of its interpretation on who was behind the massacre of the protesters and the police during the ‘Euromaidan’ mass protests on February 18-20, 2014, in Ukraine, is solid. On this there is also consensus among the two reviewers.” As the editor noted, the massacre was a “politically crucial development,” which led to the “transition of powers in the country” from the freely elected Viktor Yanukovich to the illegitimate and rabidly nationalistic administration of Aleksandr Turchinov, a former security services chief. It was endlessly cited in Western media as a symbol of the brutality of Ukraine’s government and an unprovoked attack on innocent pro-WesternMaidan protesters, who allegedly sought nothing more than democracy and freedom.
