Permalink Bombshell Admission: Ukraine is ‘Carrying Out NATO’s Mission’ Against Russia, Defense Chief Says

The confession comes amid repeated statements by senior Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, that the Western alliance has been waging a “proxy war” against Russia in Ukraine. Western media and some officials, including now ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain, have broadly dismissed these allegations. | Kiev has allowed itself to be used by NATO in the bloc’s wider conflict with Moscow, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has said. 💬 “At the NATO Summit in Madrid” in June 2022, “it was clearly delineated that over the coming decade, the main threat to the alliance would be the Russian Federation. Today Ukraine is eliminating this threat. We are carrying out NATO’s mission today. They aren’t shedding their blood. We’re shedding ours. That’s why they’re required to supply us with weapons,” Reznikov said in an explosive interview with Ukrainian television.  The official said Kiev was being constantly reminded by its “Western partners” that it, “like a real shield, is defending the entire civilized world, the entire West,” from the Russians, and said that he personally has recently received holiday greeting cards and text messages from Western defense ministers to that effect.  The defense minister went on to claim that Ukraine is “de facto already a member of NATO,” in terms of adherence to many of the alliance’s standards, including “civilian-democratic control” of the military, “transparent and clear” systems in weapons purchases and logistics, “and third, in the planning of joint operations.”

Permalink Zelensky deprives Orthodox priests of citizenship

Kiev has targeted the clerics for allegedly supporting Russia | Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has stripped 13 priests within the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of the country’s citizenship, the Levy Bereg (Left Bank) newspaper reported on Saturday, citing government sources.  The presidential decree targeting the clerics was purportedly signed by Zelensky in late December but has not been published officially, since it contains the personal data of the priests whose citizenship was being revoked.  Later in the day, however, the newspaper circulated a list of the affected individuals. For instance, it includes Ionafan, the metropolitan bishop of the Tulchin diocese in Vinnitsa Region, who was targeted by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) last October.  The domestic security agency accused the cleric of sowing religious discord and supporting Russia, claiming it had seized incriminating materials, including various “printed pro-Russian content and propaganda literature.” The list also includes his subordinate vicar, Bishop Sergey, who allegedly serves as a “caretaker” for Ionafan’s property of dubious origin, the newspaper noted.

Permalink Macron’s wife wanted ‘phallus and golden balls’ for Notre Dame – ex-minister

French politician Roselyne Bachelot claims the president was also looking for “a contemporary architectural gesture” | French First Lady Brigitte Macron suggested redesigning the iconic spire of Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral after a 2019 fire to resemble gilded male genitalia, former culture minister Roselyne Bachelot has claimed in her memoir ‘682 Days – The Hypocrites’ Ball’, released on Thursday. Just a few days after President Emmanuel Macron’s administration allegedly lambasted her decision to have the fire-ravaged Notre Dame cathedral spire rebuilt as a replica of the old one, Bachelot was out at lunch with the president’s wife when the First Lady showed her “a project topped with a sort of erect phallus with its base surrounded with golden balls,” the book reveals.

Permalink China reopens borders in final farewell to zero-COVID

Travellers began streaming into mainland China by air, land and sea on Sunday, many eager for long-awaited reunions, as Beijing opened borders that have been all but shut since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. | After three years, mainland China opened sea and land crossings with Hong Kong and ended a requirement for incoming travellers to quarantine, dismantling a final pillar of a zero-COVID policy that had shielded China's people from the virus but also cut them off from the rest of the world. China's easing over the past month of one of the world's tightest COVID regimes followed historic protests against a policy that included frequent testing, curbs on movement and mass lockdowns that heavily damaged the second-biggest economy.

Permalink Strikes in east Ukraine despite Putin's ceasefire order coming into force

Russia's defense ministry said [...] it was respecting its unilateral ceasefire and accused Ukraine's forces of continued shelling. | Artillery exchanges pounded war-scarred cities in eastern Ukraine on Friday despite Russian President Vladimir Putin unilaterally ordering his forces to stop attacking for 36 hours. The temporary Russian ceasefire during Orthodox Christmas was due to have taken effect in Ukraine at 0900 GMT on Friday till 2100 GMT on Saturday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed the order, saying the proposed ceasefire is a trick to halt the Ukrainian army's progress in the eastern region.  Since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began on February 24 last year, Russia has occupied parts of eastern and southern Ukraine, but Kyiv has reclaimed swathes of its territory and this week claimed a New Year's strike that killed scores of Russian troops.

Permalink Switzerland slated to destroy millions of mRNA vaccine doses in 2023

Switzerland slated to destroy millions of mRNA vaccine doses in 2023, as even the olds have stopped caring, and nobody in the developing world wants the surplus either | Switzerland, home to less than 9 million people, is one of the biggest mRNA vaccine customers in the world relative to population. The’ve already received a staggering 33 million Covid vaccine doses, only a little over half of which were ever administered. The small country is now sitting on 13.5 million doses, nervously awaiting the delivery of a further 2 million in the coming weeks, and surely lamenting that 11.6 million more are scheduled to arrive by the end of 2023. The vast majority of these will sit for some months in freezers before the Swiss Confederation destroys them. The country already binned more than eleven million doses last year, the greater part of them after a deal to supply surplus snake oil to the third world via the failed Covax initiative fell through because nobody in Africa wants this stuff either.  Vaccine credulity may still be the mainstream, politically acceptable position, but revealed preferences show that enormous majorities everywhere are done with mass vaccination. Pharmaceutical executives can sing their doubtful hymns to the miraculous safety and efficacy of their jabs, but the quiet worldwide rejection of their garbage products is a stinging rebuke, suggesting that billions across the world harbour unexpressed scepticism towards the mRNA Covid vaccines. From here, it is only downhill for the vaccinators.
