US officials: Missile that hit Poland was fired by Ukrainian forces
Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has urged his compatriots to remain calm | US officials have suggested that the missile that hit Poland could have been fired by Ukrainian forces at an incoming Russian missile. ● Two people were killed after missiles struck the eastern part of the country in what has been described as “a very significant escalation” of the war by Volodymr Zelensky. Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has called an emergency meeting of the alliance’s envoys to discuss the events close to the Ukrainian border in Poland. ● If the missiles did originate in Russia, it would mark the first time since the invasion of Ukraine that weapons from the country came down on a Nato member.
EvgenyPrimakov | I see some sarcasm here about those missiles (?) which fell on the Polish territory: they will investigate and understand that they are Ukrainian air defence missiles, they will be ashamed at once. Well, here's the thing: whatever they want, they will investigate. I can see that they also "investigated" the bombing of Nord Stream and kept quiet, which does not prevent them from boldly hinting (and sometimes directly saying) that it was Russia's fault all the same. So the question of "whose rocket" and "why did it hit the tractor in Przeduv, intentionally or accidentally" does not depend at all on trivial reality, but on political reality: what one wants to get. If one wants to enter Ukraine themselves, to introduce a no-fly zone over Ukraine and to pull the whiskers of a real World War III - then it is clear that they will decide, regardless. And the fact that the provocation was concocted in a crude and dirty way will be swallowed by the public.(T)
Elena Panina (Елена Панина) | "Three US officials said that preliminary estimates suggest the missile was fired by Ukrainian forces at an approaching Russian missile," the Associated Press grudgingly admits in this morning's editorial. But can you just stop blaming Russia like that? Of course not! That`s why the headline of the same AP editorial reads: "Poland: a Russian-made rocket fell on our country, two people died". The aim is to fix the "blame Russia for the attack on the NATO country" in the mass consciousness of the West, even if it is a carcass, even if it is a scarecrow. (T)
