Permalink UK PM Liz Truss Resigns – The Shortest-Lived UK Prime Minister in History

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on Thursday after spending just 45 days in post, a new record for the shortest-lived British Prime Minister | Speaking outside 10 Downing Street Thursday, Truss said because she was unable to deliver the programme she had been elected to: reforming the United Kingdom into a low-tax, high-growth economy. Truss said:

💬 “…I recognise though given this situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which Iw as elected by the Conservative party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party. This morning I met the Chairman of the e1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. We have agreed there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.  This will ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans to maintain our country’s economic stability and national security. I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen. Thank you.”

Permalink Russian Seamen Harassed, Exposed to Hatred — Danish Trade Magazine

Since the start of Moscow's special operation in Ukraine, Russians in Europe and the West in general have been slapped with sanctions and faced discrimination, hostility and humiliation, including violent attacks — a process facilitated by lopsided media coverage and prejudiced political framing.

Russian sailors are hated, discriminated against and treated badly by both authorities and their peers around the world, the Danish trade magazine Lederne Søfart reported.  Carsten Ostenfeldt, who has a top position in the large international ship management company Anglo-Eastern, told the magazine that Russians are directly harassed during port calls, as the authorities, for instance, may spend up to six hours looking through their passports and papers.

💬 “Our Russian sailors are solid people who have been with us for many years, but we are in a situation where having Russian crew on board can cause major problems in ports,” Ostenfeldt said.   “In certain cases, we have to refrain from sending the Russian sailors on board, because it can cause problems both for them and for us. It's a real shame for the people affected."

Permalink The U.S. And the Europeans Have Gone Too Far

Mohammad Marandi / Eva K Bartlett | 💬 "I think it is obvious: the U.S. and the Europeans have gone too far. They have simultaneously escalated the conflict with Iran, with Russia, with China and with other countries. I think they are now trying to achieve much more than they are able to. And the war and the sanctions that the U.S. is imposing on the oil-producing countries - will lead to enough consequences for themselves as well. Iraq is destroyed almost to the ground, Syria and Libya and Sudan and Venezuela are all under sanctions for no legitimate reason. This means that the U.S. is reducing oil production all over the world. And now that they have imposed sanctions on Russia, they have caused a huge energy crisis. [...] Obviously, Russia and Iran will cooperate because they are targeting the U.S. and against Europe. Russia and Iran are concerned about NATO's support for extremists, whether it's ISIS* or the Nazis in Ukraine. There is really no difference between the two."

Russian Demiurg | In the Kherson direction Russian artillery was engaged in massive shelling of AFU positions near the M-14 highway. To the south of it in Myrnyy, and to the north near Terny Podi.  On the Kryvorizhzhya section, Ukrainian troops attempted to advance from the north towards Sukhanov. The objective was to break through to Berislav and Novaya Kakhovka.  On the Donetsk front, Russian troops carried out assault actions near Novomikhailovka. They also attacked again the Ukrainian armed forces' stronghold in Marinka. Additionally, Russian army units attempted an offensive near Nevelskoye. And to the north of Donetsk, they carried out an assault on the village of Keramik. Thus trying to encircle the Ukrainian grouping in Novobakhmutivka. And to the north-east they were advancing on New York. To the north of Horlivka, Russian troops attacked near the Mayorskaya railway station.  The Wagner PMC continues fierce fighting with the Ukrainian garrison in Bakhmut. Russian Demiurg | Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda discussed the situation in Kherson Region. It is certain that the Russian army will fight for Kherson and has no plans to leave the city following the civilians.  There is only one reason for the removal of our civilians from Kherson: the small number of pontoon crossings and barges now taking people out. The military fears are quite logical - if serious shelling of Kherson and very serious fighting on the outskirts of Kherson begin, civilians will start leaving Kherson in droves, occupying all the routes on which military equipment should move.  It is necessary to allow everyone who wants to leave the city to leave without panic, and then quietly activate the existing transport lines to deliver ammunition, soldiers, and military equipment to Kherson.  The battle for Kherson is inevitable, and it is gratifying that the preparations for it are being made in earnest. Permalink Majority of US Waterways Contaminated by Cancer-Linked ‘Forever Chemicals,’ Analysis Reveals

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs) have been used in many consumer and industrial products since the 1940s. Often used to make products water-resistant, they break down very slowly over time and tend to build up in both the human body and the environment. PFAs have been linked to cancer and disease in humans.

Waterkeeper Alliance, a worldwide network of environmental organizations focusing on clean water, recently determined that the majority of US waterways were polluted with cancer-linked “forever chemicals.”  The agency conducted its analysis of US waterways in May and July of this year, taking 228 samples from 114 different rivers and streams across 34 states and the District of Columbia. Researchers found that 83% of the samples were found to have PFAs at levels that exceed federal limits, with 70% of those water sources detecting the most dangerous kinds of chemicals: PFOS and PFOA.
