The Chinese regime is using COVID-19 control measures to stop depositors whose savings were frozen by rural banks from protesting.

Several depositors told The Epoch Times on June 14 that the health code on their COVID-19 app turned red as soon as they scanned venue barcodes at Zhengzhou, the provincial capital city of central China’s Henan Province. A red health code—indicating a potential COVID-19 patient—means that the carrier is barred access to all public places from public toilets to shops to train stations and faces mandatory quarantine in centralized isolation centers. They’re among tens of thousands of bank depositors who have fought to recover their savings for more than two months.

Aggrieved depositors across the country planned another protest in Zhengzhou on June 13 to demand an answer, although previous gatherings were met with silence from local authorities and violence from plainclothes police officers. However, their plan was thwarted again as their health codes turned red at the city’s train stations or highway entrances. A red code indicates the highest level of risk, meaning the person tests positive, has been close to a COVID-19 patient, or has visited high-COVID-risk areas in the past 14 days. Residents with a red code face two weeks of centralized isolation.

Russian officials still haven't commented on Ukraine's claims that it sunk the tugboat Vasiliy Bekh with the Western-provided weapon.

Ukraine said it sank the Russian tugboat Vasiliy Bekh on Friday and released a video of what it said was the vessel being hit with two missiles. The Vasiliy Bekh was designed for rescue operations, but Ukraine claims it was transporting a missile system to Snake Island, which is located in the Black Sea and was captured by Russia early on in the war. The British Defense Ministry assessed that Ukraine “almost certainly” targeted the Vasiliy Bekh and used US-made Harpoon missiles. The claim is still not confirmed, but the incident marks the first time Kyiv has been said to use the Western-provided anti-ship missiles.

The country’s Ministry of Justice announced the move via Facebook, revealing that the Opposition Platform — For Life had been shut down and its assets, money and property transferred to the state. The party had previously had its operations suspended in March after it was accused of being complicit with Russia and being “anti-Ukrainian.” The ban means that Zelensky’s main political opposition has been eliminated. The OPPL was the second largest party in the country and its popularity surpassed that of Zelensky’s Servant of the People party last year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released new data showing a total of 1,301,356 reports of adverse events following COVID-19 vaccines were submitted between Dec. 14, 2020, and June 10, 2022, to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). That's an increase of 6,027 adverse events over the previous week. VAERS is the primary government-funded system for reporting adverse vaccine reactions in the U.S. The data included a total of 28,859 reports of deaths -- an increase of 327 over the previous week -- and 238,412 serious injuries, including deaths, during the same time period -- up 1,645 compared with the previous week. Of the 28,859 reported deaths, 18,719 cases are attributed to Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, 7,581 cases to Moderna and 2,493 cases to Johnson & Johnson (J&J).
