Permalink Harper tells Putin to 'get out of Ukraine' in G20 encounter

Stephen Harper told Russian President Vladimir Putin flatly that he needs "to get out of Ukraine," when the two met at a Group of 20 summit of major economies in Brisbane. A spokesman for the Canadian Prime Minister relayed the details of the encounter and, according to director of communications Jason MacDonald, "Mr. Putin did not respond positively." Mr. Harper and leaders of other Group of 20 economies are meeting on Australia’s northeast coast to find ways of spurring growth and creating jobs, but the debate is quickly taking on a more familiar theme: what to do about Russia. Mr. Putin had arrived at the summit in an unrepentant mood Friday just as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was offering detailed reports on the troops and heavy weaponry Moscow is sending into eastern Ukraine, a violation of a ceasefire agreed to in September.

Red Pill Times: How many times has Russia invaded Ukraine in the last year? Let’s add them up || From Sarah Palin to John McCain, from the NYT to the BBC, over the past year Russia has invaded Ukraine so many times that Google delivers over 1.3 million results on the subject. The newest accusation of Russian invasion has gotten so old and worn out, that people are simply starting to tune out the folly and silliness of the "boy who cried wolf."

Permalink France Takes "Independent Decisions" on Mistral Deliveries: Prime Minister

France takes "decisions independently" over the delivery of the Mistral-class helicopter carriers, the country's Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, has announced. "I have already had the occasion to say that at the current stage, today, the conditions have not been met for the delivery of the Mistral [ship] to Russia," [baloney] Valls said at a press conference Friday, as quoted by AFP. The prime minister added that France makes Mistral-related decisions in a sovereign manner, "without anyone dictating its conduct from outside" [i.e. the United States]. [That's a blatant lie, of course.]

Permalink US fighting to overthrow Assad government, not ISIL: Analyst

US airstrikes against the ISIL terrorist group in Syria is a cover for overthrowing the elected government of Bashar al-Assad, a political activist and radio host in New York says. Despite the US-led military campaign to defeat ISIL, the Assad government is the only party successfully fighting the terrorist group, Don DeBar told Press TV on Thursday. US officials are pursuing the ouster of Assad to weaken Syria and create a “chaotic situation” similar to the one in Iraq and Libya after their former leaders were deposed, DeBar argued. President Barack Obama has asked his national security team to review US strategy toward Syria after concluding that ISIL may not be defeated with Assad in power, officials say.
