Permalink Israel pursues Judaization of Gaza: Analyst

The Israeli regime has no intention of halting its aggression of the Gaza Strip as it plans to take over the besieged enclave and settle Jews there, a political analyst tells Press TV. “It seems to me that they want to take over the Gaza Strip eventually and populate it with Israeli Jews. And actually this is a plan that is called for by Moshe Feiglin who is the deputy speaker of the Knesset,” Richard Forer, an American author, said in an interview with Press TV. Forer was alluding to Feiglin's recent plan calling for the “annihilation” of the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip. Feiglin, who is also a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud Party, has also called for “the conquest of the entire Gaza Strip.”

Permalink US submarine located, ‘pushed out’ of border waters - Russian Navy’s General Staff

Anti-submarine forces of the Russian Northern Fleet located and ‘pushed out’ from the Russian border waters a foreign submarine, a high-ranking representative of the Navy’s General Staff said on Saturday. “On August 7, 2014, the Northern Fleet located in the Barents Sea a foreign submarine, supposedly of the Virginia class of the U.S. Navy,” the source said. “Active actions of the Northern Fleet’s anti-submarine forces ‘pushed out’ the submarine from the border waters of the Russian Federation,” the source said. “The contact with the submarine lasted for about 27 minutes, and then the American submarine left the region.

Permalink Russia Deeply Concerned About Ukraine’s Humanitarian Situation – Kremlin Spokesman

Moscow is deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Saturday. «From the point of view of the escalating humanitarian catastrophe, [the situation in eastern Ukraine] raises deepest concerns. This catastrophe [humanitarian] has become the number one topic for discussion," Peskov said. Answering the question about the possible ways of providing help, the spokesman reminded that such possibilities were being considered in various formats. Peskov, however, did not say whether Russia was ready to provide unilateral aid. «We need bilateral agreements at least," Peskov noted.

Permalink As Obama Launches Another Iraq Assault, Here Is An Undercover Look Inside ISIS

Tyler Durden While the biggest geopolitical news of the past week was Obama's announcement he would become only the fourth president in a row to order military action in Iraq, explicitly targeting the ISIS jihadists, the far bigger question are the developments that spurred the administration to finally act. The NYT reports that "as the tension mounted in Washington" the catalyst for Obama's decision was sudden developments surrounding the Kurdistan capital, Erbil. "Kurdish forces who had been fighting the militants in three nearby Christian villages abruptly fell back toward the gates of the city, fanning fears that the city might soon fall. By Thursday morning, people were thronging the airport, desperate for flights out of town. "The situation near Erbil was becoming more dire than anyone expected," said a senior administration official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the White House’s internal deliberations. “We didn’t want another Benghazi." The reason for this is that the US has an embassy in Erbil: that falling to ISIS would be the supreme punch in the gut for an administration whose foreign policy has become the butt of all global jokes.

Permalink US using ISIL as 'both enemy and ally': Stephen Lendman - Audio

The Obama administration is using the ISIL terrorist group as a pretext to "dominate" the resources of Iraq and other nations in the Middle East, says Stephen Lendman, author and radio show host in Chicago.
“ISIL is used by America both as an ally in Syria for example, and as an enemy currently in Iraq,” Lendman told Press TV on Saturday. US President Barack Obama authorized on Thursday the use of targeted airstrikes on Takfiri ISIL terrorists, also known as ISIS or IS, to protect American personnel inside the country and also help the Iraqi refugees under siege by the terrorist group and stranded on Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq. Obama’s assertion about the purpose of the airstrikes in Iraq are “two, big, bald-faced, fat lies,” Lendman said. “It’s all about the oil. It’s about Iraqi oil. It’s about total dominance. It’s about regional dominance.” “America simply, in plain English, doesn’t care about humanitarian intervention. If it did, why would it have murdered literally millions of people post 9/11 alone?” he stated. Lendman described all of America’s post-9/11 wars as “illegal acts of aggression, from Afghanistan, to Iraq in 2003, to Libya, to Obama’s proxy war in Syria, and now the bombing of ISIL in Iraq again.”

Permalink Rumours of massive oil find follow Cameron’s secret Shetland visit

Rumours of a massive oil find to the west of Shetland are growing after Prime Minister David Cameron made a secret visit to the islands just under two weeks ago. On July 22nd Mr Cameron turned up in Shetland unannounced. At the airport the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Scotland Alistair Carmichael. The secret visit, the first by a serving UK Prime Minister for 34 years, angered national media who were unable to despatch journalists to Shetland in time. Commenting on the visit, Scottish Secretary Carmichael told a local newspaper that the visit was, "the closest to a secret I’ve known in Shetland". However, suspicions were aroused when, within days of the visit, BP announced that the start-up of the Clair Ridge twin-bridge oilfield had been delayed by one year. However the delay was said to be due to the amount of work being carried out by the South Korean fabricator. The Clair field is located 75 km West of Shetland - Clair Ridge is the second phase of the Clair Field development. BP has invested £4.5 billion in the Clair Ridge Project and expects to extract 640 million barrels of recoverable oil, and see up to 120 thousand barrels per day at peak. Estimates put the total amount of oil at 7 billion barrels equivalent.

Permalink Netanyahu asks US to help Israel avoid war crime charges

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked US lawmakers Wednesday to help fend off Palestinian claims that his country engaged in “war crimes” while defending itself against attacks from Gaza, one top lawmaker told The Post. The Israeli leader later told international reporters that his country employed “extraordinary measures” to avoid civilian deaths in the nearly month-long conflict. As a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas held for a third day, Netanyahu met with a group of US legislators, including Rep. Steve Israel (D-LI,) to discuss the country’s tense security situation and some fissures in US-Israel relations. Netanyahu asked the delegation to help Israel stay out of the International Criminal Court, where its attacks on Gaza could come under scrutiny — even while responding to Hamas rockets fired at Israeli urban centers. Palestinian leaders are getting ready to join the ICC, and met with officials in The Hague recently to discuss the implications of joining.

Permalink Police officer fatally shoots handcuffed prisoner who had been tasered five times in one day

Daniel Saenz was fatally wounded after an officer pulled his gun during a struggle in the Downtown Jail in El Paso. Graphic video footage has emerged of the moment a policeman shot and fatally wounded a handcuffed prisoner being restrained on the floor outside of an El Paso jail. After shooting Daniel Saenz, 37, in his shoulder, police officer Jose Flores can be seen climbing on top of him and apparently pulling out his taser as another unidentified transport officer continues to restrain him. Saenz can be seen bleeding and kicking his legs for a few seconds, before lying still on the floor. The video has been released on instruction of the Texas Attorney General's Office following a request by The El Paso Times in February. The newspaper requested the video after a grand jury declined to indict Mr Flores over the shooting.

Permalink US Army Polluted Rivers With Cancer-Causing Chemicals - Environmentalist

A legal victory means the United States Army Corps of Engineers must stop polluting American rivers with cancer-causing chemicals, environmentalist Brett VandenHeuvel, director of Columbia Riverkeeper told RIA Novosti Thursday. “For years, the Army Corps has allowed harmful oil pollution to flow into the Columbia and Snake Rivers, and finally that will stop. With the dams coming into compliance with clean water laws, we will see an end to toxic discharges and chronic seepage of pollutants that have harmed our communities,” VandenHeuvel said. “In 2012, the Army Corps reported discharging over 1,500 gallons of PCB-laden transformer oil at the Ice Harbor Dam on the Snake River. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, PCBs cause cancer, as well as a variety of other adverse health effects on the immune system, reproductive system, nervous system, and endocrine system.” Under this week’s legal settlement between Columbia Riverkeeper and the Army Corps, the latter must apply for permits, file more pollution reports, switch to environmentally-friendly lubricants and pay $143,500 of Columbia Riverkeeper’s legal fees.
