Permalink Two Ukrainian military jets shot down over rebel-held area

Two Ukrainian warplanes were shot down Wednesday over rebel-held eastern Ukraine in the same vicinity as a Malaysian airliner that was downed last week, Ukrainian officials said. The planes, both Sukhoi attack aircraft, were struck in the vicinity of Saur Mogila, a town just west of the Russian border, said Aleksey Dmitrashkovsky, a spokesman for the Ukrainian armed forces. He said he had no information about the fate of the pilots. But Bogdan Senik, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, said a witness reported seeing at least one parachute open.

Permalink Bogus photos of ‘Russian’ air-defense systems in Ukraine debunked by bloggers

Ukraine continues to concoct evidence of Russia’s air defense system’s involvement in the Boeing tragedy. This time Ukraine’s secret service has published as ‘proof’ month–old photos of Kiev’s own Buk-M missile system, claiming it is Russian. Although even American officials have privately admitted that there is no evidence that Russia is involved in the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 disaster on July 17, Kiev has its own idea. On July 19, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) published some indistinct photos on its website, alleging they show Russia secretly withdrawing its Buk-M (NATO designation SA-11) surface-to-air missile system from the conflict zone in Ukraine. As of Wednesday, July 23, the photos remain on the intelligence service’s site.

Permalink Israeli rabbi says killing civilians in Gaza is allowed

An Israeli rabbi has issued a "ruling" that allows the killing of innocent civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip. Dov Lior, an Israeli rabbi from the illegal settlement of Kiryat Arba in the occupied West Bank, said in the ruling that it is “okay” to kill innocent civilians and destroy Gaza. The "ruling" also says that it is not necessary to check if the people targeted are civilians or non-civilians. The rabbi’s ruling "authorizes" all means of targeting the people, such as “denying supplies or electricity.” He further says military forces are allowed “to bomb the whole area according to the discretion of the army...” “In the case of Gaza,” the rabbi said, the Israeli military officials “will be allowed to instruct even the destruction of Gaza.”

Phyllis Bennis says the calls in Israeli for genocide against Gaza are not only coming from fringe elements in the political establishment. "This is the reflction of the actual public opinion, widespread throughout Israel. Recent polls have indicated 91 % support." - VIDEO

Permalink Thought Crime in Britain: Politician reported to the police under the terrorism act [sic!], after making comments on Twitter about Israel’s offensive in Gaza

"The big question is - if I lived in #Gaza would I fire a rocket? - probably yes," he tweeted. In a follow-up message, he wrote "Ich bin ein #palestinian - the West must make up its mind - which side is it on?" The remarks were immediately condemned by other MPs, including the Conservative party chairman Grant Shapps [Jew], who [stupidly] referred to it as an “incitement to violence” and “completely irresponsible.”

Permalink We must be honest: Israel is a Nazi state par excellence

Khalid Amayreh I am not going to discuss Israeli "rationales" behind slaughtering Palestinians. Israel has been slaughtering innocent civilians since time immemorial. Israel and her supporters are also quite skillful in fornicating with words and with the truth. The naked reality is that Israel is murdering civilians knowingly and deliberately, taking advantage of disgracefully shameless reactions by the bulk of the international community to the genocidal atrocities. I am not accusing Jews of shipping Palestinian civilians to Auschwitz, Bergen Belsen, Mauthausen and Dachau. However, it is a clarion fact that Israel is bringing Auschwitz and other concentration camps to Palestinian homes, neighborhoods, hospitals and mosques. Nonetheless, I do know that no matter how many Palestinian children and civilians the Nazis of our time murder in full view of the world, [this] will [not] be sufficient to move the whoring international community to take a meaningful action against Israel. Indeed, the governments and leaders of most influential states in this world, including the leaders of the U.S., UK. France, Germany, Russia and China are too morally bankrupt to be counted on to restrain Israeli monstrosity, let alone take a proactive action against it. In the final analysis, Israel wouldn't have reached this level of nefariousness and ghoulishness had it not been for the active support and backing of the Nazi-like entity by these immoral entities.

Permalink Al Jazeera’s Gaza bureau fired on after threats from Israeli government

Gunshots were fired into Al Jazeera's office in Gaza Tuesday, one day after Israel's foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, called for the network to be shut down. Al Jazeera evacuated the building after two “very precise shots” hit its 11th floor offices. No one was killed in the incident, but according to Al Jazeera's press release, the gunshots panicked locals living in the building and led the Associated Press to vacate its offices in the same building. On Monday, Lieberman had compared the network’s coverage of the Gaza war to Nazi propaganda and accused it of terrorism.

Permalink Defying allies, France to deliver first warship to Russia

President François Hollande won broad domestic applause on Tuesday for defying allies Britain and the United States by confirming plans to deliver a helicopter carrier to Russia, with one backer dismissing the objections as hypocritical. Speaking on the eve of an EU meeting to discuss sanctions on Moscow over the downing of a civilian airliner over Ukraine, Hollande said late on Monday that a first Mistral warship would be handed over on schedule in October but a decision on a second would depend on Russia's attitude. It was the clearest signal yet that Paris will go through with the controversial deal despite the Ukraine crisis and came only hours after British Prime Minister David Cameron said it would be "unthinkable" for his country to fulfil such an order. The United States has also said it opposes the sale, which has exposed France to criticism that it is putting its own interests ahead of Western solidarity over Ukraine.

Permalink Major American and European airlines suspend flights to and from Israel

A number of major US and European airlines are immediately suspending flights to and from Israel after a rocket attack near Ben-Gurion International Airport. US Airways, Lufthansa and Delta are some of the companies grounding their planes. The decision was taken following a warning from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), after a rocket fell in the city of Yehud, which is just five kilometers from the airport, Haaretz reported. The FFA has ordered US airlines not to fly to or from Ben Gurion Airport "for a period of up to 24 hours." Meanwhile, their European counterparts, the European Air Safety Agency (EASA) says it has issued a 'strong recommendation' to avoid Tel Aviv airport until further notice.
