Permalink Shimon Peres tells Obama he must put all options on table with Iran

Days before Israel’s president, Shimon Peres, was to meet with President Obama, Mr. Peres said on Thursday that the United States must make clear to Iran that “all options are on the table,” but he acknowledged that there was disagreement over where to draw the “red line” that would set off military intervention.

“We need a total and clear commitment that the catastrophe of Iran will not create an impossible situation,” Mr. Peres said in an hourlong interview at a Manhattan hotel. “If you can achieve it by economic and political measures, yes, that’s the best way to start. But in order that the Iranians will take it seriously, you have to say, ‘Gentlemen, we’ll try the way which may be the best, but all the other options are on the table.’ “You have to be decisive,” he said. “You have to make a choice.”

Permalink Federal Lunacy: Obama’s Endless Wars for Profit with Paul Craig Roberts 1/2

The US is famous for going to other countries with goals ranging from retaliation to installing democracy to stopping a civil war. And quite often the US government and the military alike are surprised at what they find: that people in those countries don’t want them there and, in many cases, will risk or sacrifice their lives to make sure they leave. We’re seeing a new low point in America’s longest war, unfolding as we speak – riots in Afghanistan, as citizens there protest the burning of Korans by US military personnel at Bagram airbase. Some American soldiers have been killed and many more Afghan citizens are dying as well. And there’s beginning to be a sense that the battle to win the hearts and minds there is simply impossible. Paul Craig Roberts, former official with the Reagan administration, speaks to Aaron Dykes about what happens if things don’t change dramatically. Part 2/2

Permalink Stratfor: executive boasted of 'trusted former CIA cronies'

A senior executive with the private intelligence firm Stratfor boasted to colleagues about his "trusted former CIA cronies" and promised to "see what I can uncover" about a classified FBI investigation, according to emails released by the WikiLeaks. - Fred Burton, vice president of intelligence at the Texas firm, also informed members of staff that he had a copy of the confidential indictment on Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks. The second batch of five million internal Stratfor emails obtained by the Anonymous computer hacking group revealed that the company has high level sources within the United States and other governments, runs a network of paid informants that includes embassy staff and journalists and planned a hedge fund, Stratcap, based on its secret intelligence. It operates something of an employment revolving door with branches of the Washington establishment. Mr Burton was previously deputy chief of the counter-terrorism division in the state department's diplomatic security service. The emails indicated that the company pays for information. One email released by WikiLeaks described a £4,000-a-month payment made to a Middle Eastern source, and another carried bits of gossip dropped by a retired spy. Derided as a "shadow CIA" by Mr Assange, one email from chief executive George Friedman also suggested it used methods redolent of spy agencies.

Permalink Afghan troops kill two more US soldiers in Kandahar

Two more US soldiers were shot to death in Afghanistan Thursday by Afghan soldiers and an Afghan civilian instructor, the third such incident in the past ten days, since the burning of Korans at the main US airbase at Bagram touched off a wave of rebellion throughout the country. - While there were conflicting reports about the exact circumstances, press accounts agree that an Afghan soldier and a civilian Afghan literacy teacher opened fire on US soldiers, killing two and wounding four. Both Afghan men fled but were hunted down by attack helicopters and subsequently killed. Altogether, Afghan troops killed 70 American soldiers in 46 incidents since 2007, half of them since Obama first ordered the escalation of the US war effort in Afghanistan in the spring of 2009. According to US military investigations, the majority of these attacks were by individual soldiers enraged by the conduct of the Americans, not Taliban infiltrators.

Permalink John Hagee With Benny Hinn: Praying For War, In the Name Of Jesus

Over 40,000,000 American Christians are influenced by what we call, "Angry Evangelicalism," better known as Christian Zionism. Christian Zionists like John Hagee and Benny Hinn wear a mantle of righteousness but often ignore the teachings of Jesus and invoke their will in the name of Jesus, ignoring declarations of Christ like..."Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God," "Love your neighbor as yourself" and, even "Love your enemy." No wonder so many people dislike and loathe Christians. This 4 minute video provides a snapshot of the problem and illustrates one way to challenge those Christians who, for example, fervently believe that the modern state of Israel is a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy and are even willing to go to war against a country like Iran to protect Israel. Our question to any person calling himself a follower of Christ is: "Who Would Jesus Bomb?"

Permalink Stop the Execution of Iranian for "Cyber Crimes"

Saeed Malekpour, a Canadian resident, was sentenced to death for "insulting and desecrating Islam" after a program he developed for uploading photos online had been used to post pornographic images without his knowledge.

Iran's 2009 law on “cyber crimes” allows the use of the death penalty. Malekpour, accused of being part of “a network of decadence on the Internet,” could be executed at any time.

Saeed Malekpour was arrested in 2008 when he went to Iran to visit his family. He was held in solitary confinement for a year, brutally tortured, and forced to make a “confession” which was aired on Iranian television. He was sentenced to death in October 2010 after a trial in a Revolutionary Court that lasted about 15 minutes; his death sentence was upheld in January 2012.

A number of people are shown standing outside the cage watching the atrocity.

Permalink 19 Signs That America Has Become A Crazy Control Freak Nation Where Almost Everything Is Illegal

Do you think that you are free? Most Americans would still probably answer "yes" to that question, but is that really the case? In the film Edge of Darkness, Mel Gibson stated that "everything is illegal in Massachusetts". Well, the same could pretty much be said for the United States as a whole. Our lives are governed by millions of laws, rules and regulations and more are being piled on all the time. In fact, 40,000 new laws just went into effect in January. Every single new law restricts your freedom just a little bit more. The truth is that America has become a crazy control freak nation where virtually everything that we do is highly regulated. You have probably broken multiple laws today that you don't even know exist. We have all become criminals and lawbreakers because almost everything is illegal at this point. Our politicians are convinced that they are "making life better" by piling gigantic mountains of laws on to our backs, and law enforcement authorities are convinced that they are helping society by "cracking down on crime", but the reality is that our liberties and our freedoms are being strangled by all of this government oppression. This is not the way that America is supposed to work. Yes, every society needs laws. But the laws should be short enough and simple enough that everybody can read them and understand them. In America today, there is no possible way that any of us could ever read all of the laws that apply to us. Most of us just live our daily lives and try to do the "right" thing. But there is no guarantee that men with guns will not show up at your door one evening because of some obscure regulation that you have broken.
