Permalink Libya Rebels Dumping Hundreds of Bodies in ‘Pro-Gadhafi’ Cemetery

The Libyan rebel movement’s primary embarrassment at the moment is that their claims of “50,000″ civilians slain by Moammar Gadhafi looks by early bodycounts to be about 49,000 too many. Bodies are turning up, however, and not the ones the rebels were hoping for. Instead, reports have the rebel forces dumping hundreds of bodies in a “pro-Gadhafi” cemetary with no identification, slain by the rebels for some unexplained reason. Just one cemetery reported some 800 unidentified corpses. It is unclear if these are slain members of the regime’s military, or simply dissidents. The rebels are also said to be converting a number of buildings into additional prison space, apparently out of concern that the prison-happy Gadhafi regime simply didn’t have enough room for the enormous numbers of people the new pro-NATO regime is detaining.

Permalink Greece on edge of financial disaster thanks to global bank shysters

FRANKFURT — Greek leaders struggled through the weekend to agree to a set of radical budget reductions that would satisfy foreign lenders’ demands even as they tried to stave off mounting resistance to those cuts at home. - Reflecting the urgency of the situation, the prime minister of Greece, George A. Papandreou, canceled a planned trip to Washington this week and held talks with his cabinet on Sunday. But European stock markets on Monday morning registered their pessimism, with the main indexes of the German and French exchanges down more than 2 percent. The Greek stock market index slid 2.7 percent. The Greeks face an October deadline to qualify for 8 billion euros, or $11 billion, in aid, without which Greece will certainly default on its growing debt. Over the weekend, European finance ministers issued stern warnings at a meeting in Poland that failure to meet financial targets would imperil the release of the payment. The payment is just one installment in a larger package of 110 billion euros, or $152.6 billion, in aid agreed to by euro zone members in spring 2010; a second bailout fund, for 109 billion euros, or $150.2 billion, was agreed to in July, though that has yet to be ratified.

Permalink Georgians Raise Voices For Troy Davis, Thousands Back Them Up

About 3,500 people marched and prayed for Troy Davis in Atlanta last night. Three busloads of supporters arrived from Davis’ hometown of Savannah along with other buses from Columbus and Rome, Georgia.

Ebenezer Baptist Church could not accommodate about half the supporters who arrived for the prayer service led by Rev. Raphael Warnock of Dr. King’s historic church. So an impromptu rally took place outside the church, while death row exonerees, a murder victim family member, Georgia clergy and nationally prominent human rights leaders, such as our Executive Director Larry Cox and that of the NAACP, Benjamin Jealous spoke inside. The march was an amazing sight to see – a sea of signs declaring “Too Much Doubt” and “Stop the Execution” held by a diversity of individuals and groups.

Joseph Kishore: Georgia parole board meets to decide fate of Troy Davis - Atlanta, Georgia death row inmate Troy Davis, whose pending execution has attracted worldwide opposition, is set to be killed by lethal injection on Wednesday. A Georgia parole board meeting today is his last hope of clemency. Seven out of nine non-police witnesses who accused Davis of the killing later recanted or changed their testimony. One of the remaining is a possible suspect himself. No physical evidence linking Davis to the killing was presented at the trial. President Obama, a strong supporter of the death penalty, has said nothing about the case. So far this year, 33 individuals have been executed in the United States.

Permalink Palestinian leader says nothing can stop UN bid

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Monday he'll not be deterred from seeking U.N. recognition of a state of Palestine, despite what he said was "tremendous pressure" to drop the request and instead seek to resume peace talks with Israel. - Abbas spoke to reporters en route to the United Nations, where he is to seek U.N. membership for "Palestine" in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, territories Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast War. The U.S. and Israel oppose Abbas' bid, saying a state can only be established through negotiations. Abbas has said that negotiations remain his preference, but that they must be based on the pre-1967 war frontiers and a halt of all Israeli settlement construction on occupied land.

Xymphora: Another generous offer - The offer - note the New York Times used its two best Israeli Zionists to write this article - proffered by Dennis Ross (!) to Abbas on behalf of the American government (and the Europeans, bringing up the rear as the other Jew-slaves) to convince the Palestinians to drop their UN bid for recognition as a state was so laughable you have to wonder if it was intended to be an offer the Palestinians couldn't possibly accept. Essentially, Abbas would give up, and in return the Palestinians would get to . . . recognize Israel as a Jewish state and legitimize all the settlements. As difficult as it is to believe, that's the gist of the American offer.

Permalink Israel and the Upcoming Nuclear War

The total destruction of Israel, something used by the Zionist lobby to bilk the US out of billions for years, is no longer a dream, it is inevitable. The only question is “when?” With it a limited world war may emerge with some surprises in store. It all started long ago but we can focus back one year when Israel murdered 9 Turkish citizens in an act of piracy, peace activists on an aid ship heading for Gaza. Aid ships heading for Gaza now get a military escort from the Turkish Navy and Turkey’s president is heading for Gaza and Egypt now, to slap Israel down.

Permalink Israel can commit 'nuclear holocaust' - Video

Israeli nuclear weapons have raised the prospects for a “nuclear holocaust” committed by Israel against the people of countries in the region, an analyst tells Press TV. - Israel's nuclear weapons threaten European cities as well as all regional countries that fall within range of Tel Aviv's missiles, Ralph Schoenman, the author of The Hidden History of Zionism said in an interview with Press TV on Sunday.

"The [Israel's] nuclear capacity is designed to terrorize the regional populations and the governments of the countries with the prospect of a preemptive nuclear strike by Israel," Schoenman added.

He made the remarks after the European Organization for Nuclear Research, also known as CERN, announced on Friday that it has admitted Israel as an associate member and its first non-European affiliate.

Permalink Turkey blocks Israeli bid for opening NATO office

Turkish objections have thwarted Israel’s attempt to open a NATO office, says Turkish FM, stressing determination to also keep Israel out of data-sharing after a high-powered US radar system is deployed in Turkey. - Turkey has blocked an Israeli move to open a representation office at NATO headquarters, its foreign minister said Sunday, adding that data collected by a radar system in eastern Turkey would not be shared with Israel.

“Israel recently made an attempt to open an office at NATO [headquarters] in Brussels. We said we would veto this attempt and the issue was not even put on the agenda,” Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said in an interview with the CNNTürk news channel.

A Foreign Ministry official told the Hürriyet Daily News that Israel made the request under NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue program, launched in 1994 with seven Mediterranean countries. Israel attempted to have its request approved earlier this month after Ankara downgraded ties with Tel Aviv over its failure to apologize for a deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid ship, the official said, adding that the issue could not even make its way onto NATO’s agenda after Turkey threatened to use its veto.

Permalink Berlin offers kosher lifestyle for Jews

BERLIN (AP) — When Rabbi Yitshak Ehrenberg moved to Berlin some 15 years ago, he found it almost impossible to keep a kosher lifestyle. - There were barely any grocery stores offering food prepared in accordance to Jewish dietary law, no hotels catering to the needs of devout customers on Shabat and no kosher catering services capable of hosting big community celebrations. When Ehrenberg was invited to a Bar Mitzvah, the Jewish coming of age ceremony, he would often bring his own food just to make sure he wasn't eating any non-kosher dishes. But today kosher food is more and more widely available — even in non-Jewish stores — in another sign that Berlin's Jewish community is thriving some 70 years after it was obliterated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. "Now everyone can live a glatt kosher life in Berlin," the Orthodox rabbi said proudly. "And it is affordable too."
