Permalink 6.0-magnitude earthquake kills 39 in eastern Turkey

An earthquake of 6.0-magnitude has killed 39 people in the eastern Turkish village of Okcular in Elazig Province, the governor of the province said. Dozens of others have also been reported injured. Deadly earthquakes take place rather frequently in Turkey, which is crossed by several active fault-lines. Two powerful tremors in the heavily populated northwest claimed about 20,000 lives in August and November 1999.
