US-Backed Death Squads Massacre Hundreds of Syrian Kurds

Stephen Lendman

Western leaders are silent. Media scoundrels ignore what demands headlines. Cold-blooded murder doesn't matter. It's too insignificant to report. Managed news misinformation substitutes. Death squad massacres deserves headlines. Western media point fingers the wrong way. Other times they ignore them.

Syria is America's war. It was planned years ago. Death squads were recruited. Al Qaeda, Al Nusra, and other terrorists are Washington's shock troops. They're well funded, armed, trained and directed. Their mission is mass murder and destruction. They target innocent civilians. They slaughter them in cold blood. Assad's wrongfully blamed for their crimes. US-sponsored aggression is called humanitarian intervention. America's responsibility to protect reflects genocide. Post-9/11, millions died. Mass slaughter continues. Washington bears full responsibility. Syria's being ravaged and destroyed. Tens of thousands died. No end of conflict looms.

On August 6, Itar Tass said "Al-Nusra Front (and/or Jabhat Al-Nusra) militants massacred 450 Kurds in northern Syria." They "butchered" mainly "women and children." Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported the same toll. So did Syria News. It blamed extremist foreign jihadists and Free Syrian Army (FSA) "criminals." Mostly women and children were murdered. On August 6, Itar Tass headlined "Moscow urges Syrian government and opposition to exert efforts to oust terrorists from Syria." Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said militants massacred 450 Kurdish civilians. Over 100 children were included.

Obama cancels summit, escalates tensions with Russia

Joseph Kishore

The US decision to cancel a planned summit between President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin is a major escalation of US pressure on Russia and a ratcheting up of tensions between the two nuclear-armed countries. It is the first time since the end of the Cold War that the US has canceled a publicly announced presidential meeting with leaders in Russia.

The immediate issue behind the move is the decision by the Russian government to grant temporary asylum to whistleblower Edward Snowden. There are, however, broader geostrategic issues at stake. Among the factors cited by the White House as driving the decision are “missile defense and arms control,” “trade and commercial relations,” and “global security issues”—a reference to divisions over US policy toward Syria and Iran.

An editorial in the New York Times published Wednesday morning, just before the announcement (“What’s the Point of a Summit?”), calls for canceling the summit. In the editorial, the newspaper lines up squarely behind Washington’s vendetta against Snowden and in support of the police-state spying apparatus that the former National Security Agency contractor has exposed. With this editorial statement, the Times provides yet another demonstration of the integration of the media into the military/intelligence apparatus.

At the same time, the editorial expresses a growing consensus within the American foreign policy establishment that Russia is an obstacle to major US objectives around the world and a more confrontational posture is necessary.

Decades of Israeli/Palestinian Peace Talks Failure: 50 Reasons Why

Stephen Lendman

Paul Simon's 1975 "Still Crazy After All These Years" album featured the hit song "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." Subverting peace perhaps is simpler. Four decades of futile Israeli/Palestinian talks prove it. There never was a peace process. There's none now. It's a convenient fiction. It's an illusion. It's fake. It's a sham. It's a charade. Pretense pretends otherwise. It substitutes for reality.

Here's why. Israel deplores peace. So does Washington. They're warrior states. They're not peacemakers. They never were. They're not now. They proliferate violence and instability. Their entire histories reflect it. Peace is inherently abhorrent. It defeats their agenda. Imperial marauding requires conflict. Rule of law principles don't matter. They're systematically spurned. Racism is institutionalized. So are apartheid, colonization, barbaric persecution, and injustice.

Imagine holding talks with Palestine's legitimate government excluded. Imagine letting longtime Israeli collaborators represent them. Imagine longstanding Israeli intransigence. Imagine involving Washington. Imagine it acting as interlocutor. Imagine letting it orchestrate proceedings. Imagine the worst possible outcome. It's certain. It's guaranteed. It's decided. Talks are illegitimate. They're theater. They assure failure and betrayal.
