The Camp David treaty is not a sacred text

President Carter with President Sadat of Egypt and
Prime Minister Begin of Israel at Camp David.

It is quite heartening that leaders of the Egyptian Muslim Brothers are speaking of their disdain and contempt of the 1979 Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel.

It seems also prudent that the Islamist party, evidently the largest in Egypt, will not embark on a rash feat that could invite uncalculated reactions from the Zionist entity and its western allies, especially her guardian-ally, the United States.

The Muslim Brothers have said that they will respect Egypt's international obligations.

None the less, the Camp David treaty was not really a treaty of peace, but rather a treaty of submission and capitulation to Zionist regional hegemony, arrogance and military supremacy.

True, the Sinai Peninsula was "returned" to Egypt to the last inch. However, it is also true that vast swathes of the Sinai desert became off limit to the Egyptian forces. This is why smugglers, terrorists, saboteurs and foreign agents seem to act freely throughout that territory, blowing up gas pipelines, smuggling narcotics and other contrabands, and even attacking symbols of Egyptian sovereignty, including police centers and tourist resorts.

The defunct Egyptian regime of ex President Hosni Mubarak claimed mendaciously that the Sinai desert was completely liberated from the Israeli occupation. But how can Sinai are really completely liberated when the bulk of its territory is still off limit to the Egyptian army and air force?

In addition, it is quite scandalous how Israel came to understand the infamous treaty, e.g. that it gave the Zionist entity a carte blanch to gang up on the Palestinians, liquidate the Palestinian cause, though gradually and by desensitizing the world's moral conscience, and carrying out recurrent genocidal campaigns aimed at murdering, incinerating and maiming as many Palestinians as possible.

Palestinians must get their act together in 2012

Khalid Amayreh in occupied Jerusalem

2011 was not a particularly bad year for Palestine. In this year, hundreds of Palestinian political and resistance prisoners were able to see the light, having been released from Israeli dungeons and detention camps.

Needless to say, many of these heroes would have spent the rest of their lives in Zionist jails, had it not been for the so-called Shalit deal and Israel's effective capitulation to Hamas's conditions for the release of the captive Zionist soldier.

Thanks to the deal, hundreds of Palestinian families, which had lost the hope for ever seeing their beloved ones alive again, breathed a sigh of relief as they were reunited with their children, brothers, husbands and daughters.

Needless to say, Israel had tried every conceivable effort and intelligence act to locate the captive soldier, but to no avail. After all, Shalit was held under Israel's nose somewhere in the Gaza Strip for more than 60 months.

This fact alone should make us look with admiration and gratitude to those unknown but heroic soldiers who were able to keep this valuable secret all these months and years.

2011 brought us the Arab Spring, which consigned several tyrannical pro-American regimes to the dustbin of history. Some of these regimes, such as that of ex-president Husni Mubarak of Egypt , had been a serious liability for the Palestinian struggle and steadfastness.

Islamophobic Harry’s Place thanks its Jewish Anti Zionist Collaborators

Gilad Atzmon

In the last year we have seen some so called Jewish ‘anti’ Zionists working hard to appease their Zionist brothers. Naomi Wimborne Idrissi attempted to run a clandestine operation within our movement. Sarah Kershnar of the IJAN attempted to jeopardise a Palestinian Solidarity conference, we saw the relentless Tony Greenstein harassing Richard Falk, John Mearsheimer, Lauren Booth, Dr Samir Abed Rabo, Sameh Habeeb and myself amongst many others. But now they are all rewarded.

The ultra Zionist, pro war, Neocon Harry’s Place decided today to thank its Jewish ‘anti’ Zionist “allies”. In an astonishing piece called A (small) Thank You to Anti-Israel Jews, Zionist Mouthpiece Anthony Cooper thanks his collaborators within our midst.

Cooper’s article reaffirms what we know for more than a while-there is a clear ideological, political and ethical continuum between Israel and some of the so-called Jewish ‘anti’ Zionists (AKA AZZ -Anti Zionist Zionists).

Try Peace For A Change

Charles E. Carlson

Where is the hope for world peace now that the season for singing "Peace on earth and mercy mild, Christ and sinners reconciled" and “Joy to the world, the Lord has come," is over?

Political candidates are competing for the votes of so-called "Christian Zionists,” who are, in mass, supporting the Warmakers’ goal of bigger conflicts in Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, and Gaza and any place Muslims live. Note that all of these countries with the exception of Gaza, have small populations and rich natural resources,

The outcry for peace that fueled demonstrations a few years back has sadly faded. It seems the banker-warmakers have stamped out all resistance to their war-based economy. The call for jobs, tax reform, home financing, and even concerns about the shaky states in Europe dominate financial news. Peace has become a non-issue.

President Obama is trying to make it appear that he has fulfilled his 2008 promise by bringing home the occupation force from Iraq. This is a sham, for it appears that 8000 troops are not coming back, but will remain stationed on Kurdish territory near the Iranian border. Worse yet, a huge number of incredibly expensive non-military mercenaries--a private army in every sense--are staying in Iraq. They are no doubt there to control the corrupt government installed by the U.S. The people of Iraq have no peace.

It is likely that President Obama does not himself understand the continued occupation, or who is pumping Iraq’s oil. He, like his opponents, is too caught up with the election to unravel the "facts" he is fed from the Pentagon, and central bankers. In America, war is too important a business to be entrusted to the President.

As for the Republicans, Dr. Paul seems to be the only one who understands the war-based economy and how it is financed through the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FED). The rest of the Republican candidates have accepted the wars as a given. The big media is ignoring the move toward new wars and playing down the old ones.

Failure to link the corruption of the bankers with the serial warmaking has defused the protests against Wall Street, leaving Occupy Wall Street a fractured and confused movement.

Obama signs police state legislation

Patrick Martin

President Barack Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law on New Year’s Eve. The bill provides a massive $662 billion for the US war machine and makes unprecedented inroads into democratic rights, authorizing the US military to seize individuals anywhere in the world and hold them in a military detention facility indefinitely, without a trial or any other legal recourse.

Congressional Democrats and Republicans ratified the NDAA in a series of House and Senate votes in November and December that beat back nearly all efforts to set limits to the presidential power to arrest and imprison without trial or charge. As Republican Senator Lindsey Graham emphasized during the congressional debate, the legislation defines the entire world to be part of the battlefield against Al Qaeda, including the territory of the United States itself, making every human being on the planet, including every American citizen, a potential prisoner of the American military.

The NDAA effectively revokes the oldest democratic right, habeas corpus, which bars arbitrary imprisonment by requiring that the government present evidence to a judge or court to justify taking a person into custody. This right was first asserted in England during the Middle Ages and finally established and codified in the course of the English Revolution of the 17th century, which shattered the arbitrary power of the monarchy and established the supremacy of parliament.

Under the new law, the president of the United States can designate any individual, whether an American citizen, resident alien, or citizen of any other country, to be arrested and detained for life by the US military. The law defines a “covered person” in the following terms: “A person who was a part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, including any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces.”

This goes far beyond terrorists linked to the 9/11 attacks, the purported target of the Bush and Obama administrations’ “war on terror,” to include anyone defined by the president as “engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners.” This could include Kurdish separatists in Turkey (a US NATO ally), Palestinian protesters in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza, and anyone engaged in resisting the ongoing US wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia, or any future wars initiated by Obama or his successors.
